APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE Job Summary The Department of Business and Industry is hiring an Attorney for the Industrial Relations Division. The position can be filled in Carson City or Las Vegas. The Legal Section provides legal review, advice, and representation to the Administrator and the various sections comprising DIR, including review of regulations, Bill Draft Requests, representing the agency in Administrative Hearings, and other issues that require an interpretation and/or analysis of present or proposed law. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and professional attorney with strong legal research, writing, analytical, time management, and communication skills. They are organized, detail-oriented, and capable of independently managing multiple priorities while providing sound legal advice and representation in support of the Division's mission. They will exercise sound judgment, demonstrate integrity and professionalism, and approach challenges with a practical, solution oriented mindset. They work effectively with agency leadership, staff, stakeholders, and opposing counsel and contribute positively to a collaborative workplace through accountability, teamwork, and mutual respect. Essential Qualifications Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and graduation from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. Admission to practice law in Nevada. Candidate must be in good standing with the State Bar. At least two years of experience practicing law preferred. Experience in administrative proceedings. Experience involving Nevada Workers’ Compensation appeals and/or Nevada Occupational Safety and Health is highly desired. Ability to type, compose, and edit documents in Microsoft Word. Excellent oral and written communication, management, and organizational skills. Excellent human relations skills with demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with staff, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders. Ability to multitask on a variety of legal issues and cases. Ability to respond to media inquiries and public records requests. Job Duties Represent the agency at administrative hearings before the Department of Administration Hearings Division. Represent the agency at administrative hearings before Administrative Law Judges. Represent the agency before State and Federal Courts at trial and appellate levels. Represent the agency in Nevada OSHA cases brought before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Board. Draft legislation, regulations, contracts and advisory opinions for the agency. Represent the agency at legislative hearings. Speak at conferences and other venues on behalf of the Division. Advise the Administrator on legal issues affecting the agency. Benefits Include Health Insurance: Medical, dental, life, and disability insurance programs for employees and their dependents/family are offered through the Public Employees’ Benefits Program (PEBP). Vacation: Accrual of three weeks of annual leave each year. Sick Leave: Accrual of three weeks of sick leave each year. Holidays: 12 paid holidays per year. Retirement: Participation in the Nevada Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Employees do not contribute to Social Security but will contribute to PERS if their position is at 50% or more full-time equivalency. No Nevada state income tax. Public Service Loan Forgiveness: Eligible due to public sector employment. Longevity Payments Eligibility: Employees who have received a performance rating of “standard” or better and have completed eight (8) or more years of continuous service are eligible for longevity pay. Additional benefits may apply to employees covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), depending on their designated bargaining unit.
