Manager, Data Science

This role manages a team of data scientists responsible for a portfolio of diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics projects to support data-driven business decision making in Generative AI Projects for FAS Division. Supports the continuous evolution and strategy of Vanguard's data science capabilities. It applies advanced data science techniques to uncover trends from large datasets and inform strategic decisions across diverse business areas such as Marketing, Sales & Digital.  Core ResponsibilitiesOversees and engages in deep dive diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to support data-driven business decision making in Traditional AI & GenAI Projects. Creates alternative model approaches to assess complex model design and advance future capabilities.   Manages a team of data scientists responsible for a portfolio of diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics projects to support data-driven business decision making. Supports the continuous evolution and strategy of Vanguard's data science capabilities.   Identifies and diagnoses data inconsistencies and errors, documents data assumptions, and forages to fill data gaps.   Engages with internal stakeholders to understand and probe business processes to develop hypotheses. Brings structure to requests and translates requirements into an analytic approach.   Guides test design, research design, and model validation. Provides statistical consultation services. Serves as the analytics expert on cross functional teams for large strategic initiatives and contributes to the growth of the Vanguard analytic community.   Executes operational plans to achieve department objectives. Collaborates with department or functional heads in planning, developing, and executing near-term goals.   Prepares, reviews, and delivers insight presentations and action recommendations. Communicates complex analytical findings and implications to business leaders.   Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.   Designs and refines data mining architectures, analytical protocols, and statistical reporting methods to identify actionable trends in large and complex datasets.   Conducts research to evaluate cutting-edge analytics methodologies, aiming to enhance organizational capabilities and maintain competitive advantage   Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.   Qualifications  Minimum of 5+ years related work experience in Data Science or AI/ML Engineering roles.   Expertise in Supervised & Unsupervised Learning, Statistics, Deep Learning, NLP, Generative and Agentic Solutions. Good understanding of LLM Evaluation Framework, Prompt Optimization, Context Engineering and RAG Architectures. Programming skills to access, transform and prepare large scale data for machine learning modeling.   Experience utilizing statistical and machine learning methods.   Experience in creating explainable ML solutions and Attribution methodologies.   Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or related field of study or equivalent combination of training and experience.   Graduate degree preferred.   Special FactorsSponsorshipVanguard is not offering visa sponsorship for this position.About VanguardAt Vanguard, we don't just have a mission—we're on a mission.To work for the long-term financial wellbeing of our clients.
