Our established three-doctor small animal practice in Brewer, Maine, is growing, and we’re looking for a Medical Director who can bring clinical experience, mentorship, and fresh ideas to an already talented team. Brewer Veterinary Clinic is an AAHA-accredited, high-volume small animal practice with a loyal client base and a team committed to providing compassionate, high-quality medicine. Our state-of-the-art facility includes digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, IDEXX diagnostic equipment, and an impressive surgical suite—giving our doctors the tools and resources to practice the level of medicine they’re proud of. As Medical Director, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact without having to do it alone. You’ll partner closely with the Hospital Manager, Regional Operations Manager, and Rarebreed support teams while helping guide medical standards, mentor fellow veterinarians, strengthen hospital culture, and identify opportunities for continued growth. This is a hands‑on clinical leadership role, so you’ll still have the opportunity to see patients, build client relationships, and practice medicine while helping shape the clinical direction of the hospital. WHAT YOU’LL DO

Provide high-quality medical and surgical care to companion animals, primarily dogs and cats Serve as a clinical leader and trusted resource for the veterinary team Help establish and maintain high standards for medical quality, patient care, and client experience Mentor, support, and collaborate with fellow veterinarians and clinical team members Partner with the Hospital Manager and Regional Operations Manager on hospital goals, performance, and continued growth Help foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable hospital culture Identify opportunities to strengthen clinical services and improve hospital workflows Collaborate within our broader veterinary ecosystem and communicate with referring veterinarians Participate in continuing education, seminars, and professional development Provide preventative care and counsel clients on their pets’ long‑term health Perform dental procedures and surgery based on experience and interest Help create an environment where our team enjoys coming to work and our clients feel confident bringing their pets to us

REQUIREMENTS

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree Ability to obtain a Maine Veterinary License Experience practicing veterinary medicine in a hospital setting Strong clinical judgment and commitment to high‑quality patient care Collaborative communication and leadership skills Interest in mentoring, developing teams, and helping shape hospital culture Previous leadership experience is preferred; however, experienced veterinarians ready to take the next step into formal leadership are encouraged to apply Employment will require the successful completion of references and a background check.
