Job TitleParamedicJob DescriptionParamedics for League City provide immediate response to 911 calls and, as the first healthcare provider at the scene of emergency situations, evaluate these emergencies and provide medical care to the sick and injured. This is an "emergency essential" position, requiring you to be available immediately before, during, and after emergency conditions or disasters, to perform duties directly related to the emergency conditions, as determined by the City. Additionally, this is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position, where you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.Job FunctionsThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.Provide citizens of League City and surrounding communities with emergency medical care and transportation to hospitalsAssist and coordinate with other emergency service agencies in MVAs, rescue operations, and other emergency situationsDocuments all medical calls and medical treatment provided in ESO Solutions systemReceive technical and functional supervision from EMS Management StaffExercise functional supervision over lower-level certified partners, PRN personnel, and other providers, as neededProvides prehospital medical care during emergency situations to include Basic Life, Advanced Life, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support activitiesAdministers intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and oral medicationsAssess/evaluate patient condition, determines course of treatment, and performs advanced procedures if necessaryContinually monitor patient condition, changing course of treatment as neededMaintains equipment; checks and replaces damaged and used supplies; and cleans the fire stationDrive MICU units to scenes and/or transports patients to receiving facilitiesMust be able to work shift calendar that includes a four shift rotation with debit day to equal a 48-hour work week, including holidays and weekendsPerforms related work as requiredAcceptable emergency driving techniquesAbility to learn geography of response areaMust maintain ability to carry out standing orders under the medical director's discretionQualificationsAt least one (1) to three (3) years of Emergency Medical Service experienceRequired to pass League City's Protocol written exam and oral scenario within three (3) months of date of hire and maintain authorization annually to work under this protocol while employed by the City Required Licenses or Certifications Completion of TDHS EMT-P or LPEach individual must qualify and be re-certified prior to the end of their Texas certification period.Must maintain CE hours within current Texas DSHS guidelinesValid Texas Driver's License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hireAdvanced Cardiac Life support training preferredSupplemental Information Knowledge of: Medical equipment and inventory.English grammar, spelling, punctuationModern office procedures, methods and computer equipment Skill in: Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationshipsPerforming a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature Ability to: Assess and diagnose patients with medical complaints.Remain calm and customer focused during highly stressful situationsIdentify mechanical issues with the ambulance and medical equipmentCommunicate effectively, both orally and in writingUnderstand and carry out oral and written directionsAccurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic filesMaintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundariesBenefitsVacation leave accruals at the rate of 3.33 hours per pay period x 24 pay periods;Paid holidays that are determined on an annual basis;Employee paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance programs paid for by the City; (Effective on first day of the month after your hire date – family benefits are available and require premiums paid by the employee).TMRS retirement plan that requires a mandatory employee contribution of 7% of gross earnings.
