Shift Supervisor - Diesel Fleet Maintenance

Position Summary As an Operations Supervisor at Ryder, you will assist the Ops Manager/Sr. Ops Manager with overseeing the operations and personnel on a shift at a specific location. You will have supervisory duties over Technicians, Customer Service Coordinators, Technicians, and Service Employees, ensuring that business objectives and labor requirements are met while maintaining customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. Essential Functions Workflow Management Work analysis, planning, and scheduling; assigning work to technicians. Productivity tracking and optimization, shift and shop meetings, and RO review and approval. Ensuring all warranty policies and procedures are executed. Managing unscheduled customer drive‑ins and communicating with customers to assign work to technicians. Conducting yard checks to ensure proper work scheduling and prioritization. Labor Management Management, training, and development of all personnel assigned. Performance management of all assigned personnel. Customer Management Managing customer relationships, issue resolutions, satisfaction, and retention. Communicating with customers regarding PM scheduling, breakdowns, and vehicle status updates. Conducting customer visits as required by the Customer Care Plan. Asset Management Directing direct reports in maintaining the appearance and condition of the assigned location. Evaluating needs and recommending shop tooling and equipment requirements. Managing vehicle specifications and in‑service/out‑service processes. Ensuring parts inventory management, policies, and procedures. Quality Management Quality inspections of PM & repairs; performing in‑process reviews of non‑PM work. Conducting breakdown root‑cause analysis and implementing corrective actions. Ensuring cleanliness and quality of repair for all maintained vehicles. Working with the Service Manager to train technicians and prioritize TOPS plans. Maintaining the quality assurance audit, corrective action plans, and continuous improvement programs. Ensuring compliance with safety and EPA regulations. Financial Management Delivering against Net Maintenance Cost per Unit objectives while maintaining quality and safety. Cost control measures related to the maintenance operations budget and location P&L. Executing Maintenance Initiatives to achieve financial targets. Managing payroll, purchase order approval, invoice reconciliation, and fuel reconciliation. Handling the customer bill‑back process, including review and approval of bill‑back opportunities. Ensuring proper documentation and reporting of re‑billable activity. Maintaining data integrity in the Shop Management Online system. Additional Responsibilities Performing duties as assigned by leadership. Requirements Skills and Abilities Professional representation of Ryder; competent interaction with customer management. Strong vehicle diagnostics/repair knowledge (preferred). Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office. Qualifications H.S. diploma/GED required. Associate’s degree preferred. 1‑3+ years of experience in a maintenance operations environment required. Demonstrated success in a Ryder role may satisfy experience requirements. Maintenance and technical experience in a shop environment required. Supervisory experience preferred. Experience with a Shop Management System preferred. Microsoft Office intermediate proficiency preferred.
