Mathematics Teacher (K-12)

Job Description

Job Description

Do you love math — and love helping kids discover that they can be good at it, too?

Sylvan Learning of Simi Valley is looking for a caring, creative, enthusiastic Math Teacher who knows that great math instruction is about more than getting the right answer. It’s about helping students understand the “why,” experience those wonderful lightbulb moments, and build the confidence to tackle problems they once thought were too hard.

We’re looking for the kind of teacher who can make math come alive.

The right person for our team loves working with kids, enjoys finding different ways to explain a concept, and knows how to bring encouragement, patience, creativity, and even a little fun into every lesson.

What You’ll Do

As a Sylvan Math Teacher, you’ll work with students in a supportive small-group environment, helping them strengthen foundational skills, close learning gaps, and develop confidence as mathematicians.

You will:

• Teach math to students at a variety of grade levels and abilities
• Help students understand concepts rather than simply memorize procedures
• Find creative ways to explain math when the first explanation doesn’t click
• Make learning engaging, positive, and rewarding
• Celebrate progress — from mastering multiplication facts to finally understanding algebra
• Encourage students who may have decided they are “just not good at math”
• Create a warm environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes
• Work alongside a team of educators who genuinely care about their students and one another

The Teacher We’re Looking For

You might be a wonderful fit if you:

• Genuinely love math
• Genuinely love working with kids
• Get excited when a student suddenly says, “Ohhh! Now I get it!”
• Are patient enough to explain something three different ways if that’s what a student needs
• Know how to make math approachable, engaging, and even fun
• Are encouraging, positive, dependable, and caring
• Can connect with students while still keeping them focused and learning
• Enjoy working with students one-on-one and in small groups
• Believe confidence is an important part of academic success
• Want your work to make a meaningful difference in a child’s life

Why Teachers Enjoy Sylvan

At Sylvan, you get to focus on one of the best parts of being an educator: teaching.

Our programs, instructional materials, and student learning plans are provided for you. That means less time spent preparing lessons and more time spent connecting with students and helping them succeed.

You’ll also enjoy:

• Small-group instruction
• Personalized learning plans
• No lesson planning to take home
• No papers to grade at night
• A supportive team of fellow educators
• Training and instructional support
• The opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students and families
• The satisfaction of seeing students grow in both skills and confidence

Most importantly, you’ll work in an environment where student victories are noticed and celebrated.

Math Skills

We are especially interested in educators who are comfortable teaching mathematics across multiple levels. Experience with middle school math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and/or higher-level math is especially valuable.

Teaching experience and/or a strong educational background in mathematics, education, engineering, science, or a related field is preferred.

More Than a Math Job

Some of our students come to us already loving math.

Others arrive convinced that they can’t do it.

Those are often the students who need a special kind of teacher — someone patient enough to meet them where they are, skilled enough to help them move forward, and caring enough to make sure they don’t give up on themselves.

If you’re the teacher who loves turning “I can’t” into “I did it,” we would love to meet you.

Come teach math. Build confidence. Celebrate breakthroughs. Make a difference.
