Job Description
See to Succeed is a public–private partnership providing comprehensive eye exams and free glasses to school-age students across Houston and surrounding areas. We collaborate with local school districts to bring children to high-volume vision clinics or deliver services directly on campus through our mobile unit.
The Houston Health Department is seeking motivated, flexible, and mission-driven individuals to support daily operations of the See to Succeed program.
This position is part-time and seasonal (more information on work schedule will be given in interview).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service while representing See to Succeed at clinics and school sites
- Assist with clinic setup/breakdown, inventory tracking, and ensuring smooth workflow through accurate paperwork handling
- Conduct vision pre-testing (hands-on training provided) and support overall patient flow at clinics.
- Perform logistical duties such as transporting equipment, loading/unloading buses, student headcounts and coordinating student movement through clinic stations
- Travel to schools to dispense and adjust glasses for students (Fleetshare vehicle or mileage reimbursement available)
- Complete daily reports, registration packets, QA checks, and data entry
- Support insurance verification processes
- Provide program information and referrals to families as needed
- Assist with office and clinic supply inventory, ordering, and mobile clinic set-up/break-down
- Participate in other department projects and tasks as assigned
Requirements
• Comfortable standing, walking, bending, and moving throughout an 8-hour shift.
• Must pass background check and drug test
• Strong professionalism, reliability, and willingness to work in a fast-paced, child-focused environment
• Job is part-time and seasonal (more information on work schedule will be given during interview)
• Ideal candidate must enjoy working with and around children (ages 4 - 18 years old), be flexible, adapt to change easily, and able to work independently.
Working Conditions
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
Minimum Requirements
• EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school diploma or a GED.
• EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Six (6) months of experience are required.
• LICENSE REQUIREMENTS May require a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).
Preferences
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred
- Experienced using Microsoft Office – outlook, excel, word; patient record experience a plus.
- Successful track record of working with children and school administrators preferred
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

FUNDING INFORMATION Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. Pay Grade 11
