Executive Assistant to Government Law & Policy Leaders

Initiative, adaptability, and innovation are essential for driving success, anticipating needs, and providing strategic solutions. The role is based in our Washington, D.C. office on an in‑office basis. Position Summary The Executive Assistant provides high‑level support to a team of attorneys and directors, managing a comprehensive range of technical, document processing, and administrative tasks. Responsibilities include oversight of a Legislative Assistants team, delegation, workload monitoring, and serving as the primary escalation point. Flexibility to work overtime as required is essential. Key Responsibilities Manage and maintain a busy calendar, email, and telephone system; schedule appointments Prepare and organize travel arrangements Maintain client files and update contact lists Draft letters and correspondence, including word processing and proofreading Conserve attorneys’ and directors’ time by reviewing, researching, and routing correspondence Monitor, screen, respond to, and distribute incoming communication Process reimbursement expenses, heavy expenditure reporting, and credit card reconciliation Manage client billing and collections, and time entry Serve as a primary client contact for coordination and management of client relationships Supervise and manage a team of Legislative Assistants, including assignment, delegation, performance monitoring, guidance, and escalation Coordinate workflow between Legislative Assistants and attorneys/directors to ensure timely completion of assignments Assist in onboarding and training of new Legislative Assistants and support their ongoing professional development Coordinate client engagement and conflicts process Assist in business development initiatives and filings Collaborate effectively with Administrative Support Coordinators, Legislative Assistants, and other legal support team members Utilize firm resources efficiently to achieve desired outcomes Assist with overflow work and special projects as assigned Qualifications Skills & Competencies Extremely organized, detail‑oriented, able to multi‑task and prioritize workload, excelling under pressure Self‑starter, forward‑thinking, action‑oriented, and focused Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate in a team and work independently Strong attention to detail and time‑management skills Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines Excellent verbal and written communication skills Quick learner, able to adapt to new situations Willingness to respond outside normal business hours Education & Prior Experience Minimum five years of experience as an administrative or executive assistant in a large or medium‑sized law firm Bachelor’s degree preferred Technology Proficiency with Windows‑based software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), document management, and other office technologies The Expected Pay Range For This Position Is $47.04 – $58.58 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, location, and other job‑related factors permitted by law. Full‑time employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, health insurance with an optional HSA, short‑term disability, long‑term disability, dental insurance, vision care, life insurance, healthcare and dependent‑care flexible spending accounts, 401(k), vacation, sick time, and an employee assistance program. Additional voluntary programs include accident, life, disability, critical illness, cancer, and pet insurance. Commuter and transit programs may also be available in certain markets.
