SENIOR NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR

Class Title The Senior Network Administrator reports to the Infrastructure Manager and is responsible for providing system- and network-related solutions for the City's information technology assets. Class Features In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the Senior Network Administrator provides direction and support to Network & System Administrator I & II on topics related to City network infrastructure when the Infrastructure Manager is unavailable. Duties and Responsibilities Oversee the operation of networking equipment and assist in creating maintenance standards and new strategies to optimize server operation. Maintain equipment refresh cycles and recommend new or replacement equipment when needed. Facilitate email systems and configure desktop development alternatives. Serve as the second point of contact for all network modifications or expansions. Make timely decisions on priorities within tight time frames and report to the Infrastructure Manager. Perform day-to-day administration of the City's network infrastructure. Monitor and troubleshoot network performance and security issues. Install, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot routers, gateways, firewalls, and other networking infrastructure for LAN/WAN and Internet connectivity. Train helpdesk personnel on first-line network issue troubleshooting. Train Network & Systems Administrators I & II on Tier 2 network issue troubleshooting. Directly troubleshoot, test, and maintain City Network equipment and oversee junior personnel’s efforts in these areas. Implement industry best practices and disseminate information to infrastructure team personnel. Oversee the development and deployment of new features, facilitating related procedures and tools as necessary. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent education and experience (minimum five years). One of the following certifications: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Network+, SolarWinds Certified Professional, VMware Certified Technical Associate – Network Virtualization (VCTA‑NV), or agreement to obtain one within the first year of employment. Strong communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work independently, identify resources, and make independent decisions. Ability to lead and work as part of a team, with a willingness to learn as technology evolves. Intelligent, self‑motivated, well‑organized, and detail‑oriented. Strong documentation skills and ability to share information with subordinates. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job. Positive customer‑oriented attitude and professional image. Preference for candidates with municipal government experience. Physical Requirements Performed mainly in a sedentary position with occasional walking. Requires extensive use of computer and technical equipment. Requires visual perception of colors, shapes, and textures. Requires operating, maneuvering, or adjusting equipment, machines, or materials. Requires oral communication. Requires light physical effort, occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects up to 25 pounds. Job can be performed with or without accommodations. Work Environment Regularly performed in an office environment with moderate quietness. Limited exposure to extreme weather and injury risk.
