Job Summary:


We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Medical Abstractionist with extensive experience in coding and charge abstraction. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing medical records, assigning appropriate CPT and ICD-9 codes, and ensuring coding compliance. This role emphasizes abstraction over traditional coding or reviewing edits and requires high-volume coding experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Abstract and Code: Systematically review and analyze medical records to determine appropriate diagnoses, procedures, and billable services.
• High-Volume Coding: Accurately code and abstract 15-20 notes per hour while ensuring compliance with coding standards.
• Billing & Reconciliation: Submit coded services for billing, review inpatient data, and reconcile billable services.
• Error Resolution: Identify and resolve coding-related edits and errors impacting claim submissions.
• QA & Compliance: Monitor changes in coding procedures, assist in staff training, and conduct internal QA reviews when needed.
• Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, management, and billing teams to ensure coding accuracy and efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

• Certification: CPC (Certified Professional Coder) required (NO apprentice certifications accepted).
• Education: Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent experience.
• Experience:
  
  
  • 5+ years of coding experience.
  • 3+ years in a clinical environment.
  • Extensive experience in E/M (Evaluation & Management) and Critical Care coding (preferred).
  • Strong background in coding procedures such as ultrasounds, nerve blocks, emergency department (ED), and cardiology-related coding.
  • Experience in a hospital setting is a plus.

  • EPIC experience required (proficiency in EPIC software is mandatory).
  • Ability to read and analyze medical records accurately.
