Primary responsibilities of the Surgical Technician include:

• Prepare andset up surgical instrumentation and equipment according to department standardsand surgeon preference cards.
• Maintain asterile field and ensure all surgical instruments and supplies are ready andfunctioning properly.
• Anticipate theneeds of the surgical team during procedures, providing instruments andsupplies promptly.
• Perform handand arm scrubs in accordance with departmental policies, donning sterile gownand gloves, and setting up instrumentation and equipment as per guidelines.
• Conductsurgical counts with the circulating nurse at designated intervals, assistingsurgeons with gowning, gloving, and draping after skin preparation, and safelypassing instruments, sponges, and sutures during procedures
• Maintain thesterile field and ensuring team adherence to sterile techniques, verifying andpreparing medications and solutions for use within the sterile field, andaccurately tracking their usage.
• Properhandling and identification of specimens, providing safe and dignified patientcare, assisting with dressings and casts, and careful management ofinstrumentation.
• Afterprocedures, responsibilities extend to preparing instruments for cleaning andsupporting operating room cleanup following Universal Precautions.
• Participate inongoing training and education to stay current with best practices andtechnological advancements.
• Collaborateeffectively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensureoptimal patient outcomes.

This position floats to various units within the UCLA Health systembased on the patient census and the skills of the staff. Hospital locationsinclude but are not limited to the following:

Salary Range: $47.43-$47.43 Hourly

Qualifications

We're seeking a highly-skilled, self-motivated professional with:

• Graduate of Surgical Technician program, required
• Minimum 2years of Surgical Technician experience, required
• Ability toscrub in multiple service lines, required
• BLS from theAmerican Red Cross or American Heart Association, required
• SurgicalTechnician certification from the NBSTSA, preferred
• Workingknowledge of universal precautions, aseptic technique, operating roomsanitation, and departmental policies and procedures.
• Familiaritywith surgical procedures, anatomy, terminology, and age-specific physiologicaland psychological patient needs.
• Knowledge ofthe use, function, and operation of surgical instruments, equipment, andfurniture.
• Ability tospeak, read, and write proper English to convey information clearly, explainprocedures, and respond professionally via phone or in person.
• Ability toestablish and maintain cooperative working relationships and persuade others tofollow established practices.
• Willingness toaccept shift changes and respond to emergency calls or disaster situations asdepartmental needs require.
• Skill insetting priorities, recognizing emergencies, and taking appropriate actionbased on experience or direction.
• Ability towork independently, follow through on assignments, and perform repetitive taskswith consistency and accuracy.
• Physicalability to lift heavy objects, push or pull carts, handle surgical equipmentsafely, and stand for extended periods.
• Willingness tolearn new procedures and enhance skills through training and professionaldevelopment opportunities.
• Demonstratesaccuracy in task execution and adherence to safety protocols to ensure patientand staff well-being
