Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic Specialist
As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic Specialist, you will ensure our Wastewater Treatment Plants' performance, safety, and optimization by inspecting, maintaining, and repairing pumps, drives, and mechanical equipment. Your expert mechanical knowledge will be utilized to ensure effective operations and maintenance of our treatment facilities and our 18-mile sludge pipeline if you are seeking an opportunity to enhance your skills and knowledge in areas such as maintenance, Instruments and Controls (I&C), electrical, and/or operations. A day in the life of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic Specialist may include:
- Maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding pumps, motors, valves, and pipelines
- Maintaining, calibrating, and operating a variety of equipment used to treat wastewater
- Maintaining chemical feed and mixing equipment
- Performing electrical, plumbing, heat, ventilation, air conditioning, structural maintenance, and repairs to buildings and facilities
- Inspecting, testing, and preparing confined spaces for safe entry
- Inspecting, testing, and certifying a variety of safety equipment
- Rigging and lifting as needed for maintenance activities
- Conducting continuous preventative maintenance on wastewater treatment plant equipment
- Determining and adjusting preventative maintenance sequence intervals to maintain or lower costs and increase efficiencies
- Utilize work management system to track and record repairs on equipment and systems
- Collect and interpret data from analytical equipment such as vibration analysis, oil analysis, and thermographs
- Perform light to medium welding tasks
- Perform machining tasks with lathes, milling machines, and drill presses
- Follow Colorado Springs Utilities LOTO, confined space, and other safety policies
- Work with planners to procure parts, materials, and equipment using O&M manuals and system drawings
- Obtain Qualified Electrical Worker 2 certification within 6 months (in-house training)
Please note that this position requires the ability to work standby and overtime as needed and help provide 24/7/365 coverage for the plant approximately once every six weeks based on the standby schedule.
Who You Are:
- The ideal candidate will have three or more years of mechanical and/or electrical experience in a commercial, industrial, water/wastewater plant maintenance and/or environment.
- Possession of a Colorado Class D Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification, or the ability to obtain one within two years of hire
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
- Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
