Accounts Payable Specialist (part-time)

This position supports the Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Department of Social Services in delivering quality customer service to internal and external customers and seeks a dedicated team player who contributes to a high‑performing culture. Responsibilities Process accounts payable for a variety of benefit and service programs using automated systems. Handle purchase order processing, invoice verification, and payment requests. Process benefit replacement checks, research outstanding checks, submit proof registers, and issue checks. Manage Companion Care provider payments using QuickBooks Pro and maintain daily communication with case workers. Audit information to guarantee compliance with state and local regulations, budget guidelines, and program policies. Serve as a backup for processing Foster Care and other program payments using Harmony and Dynamics systems. Interpret financial reports and scan documents using the Laserfiche Imaging System. Perform other related duties as required. Required Qualifications High school diploma supplemented with bookkeeping coursework and related fiscal support experience using business and agency software, including spreadsheets or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Skill in operating a personal computer, associated business and agency software, spreadsheets, a calculator, and other office machines. Considerable knowledge of established bookkeeping and accounting principles applied to governmental accounting transactions and arithmetic. Working knowledge of state and local government fiscal regulations, policies and procedures, and office accounting methods. Current valid driver’s license with good driving record; no more than six demerit points in the preceding 24 months (or an equivalent standard). Out‑of‑state driving records must be presented at interview. Pre‑employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of accounting principles and practices as well as general office practices and procedures. Ability to analyze and interpret financial reports and data, and maintain detailed fiscal records and files. Excellent computer skills utilizing Microsoft Excel and other software packages. Excellent organizational and time‑management skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal, communication and critical‑thinking skills and ability to work as part of a team. Demonstrated skill in handling fast‑paced and often competing pressures on one’s time. Shift & Work Location Shift: 28 hours/week; Monday – Friday; 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Work Location: Social Services, Chesterfield/Colonial Heights.
