Janitor - Temporary

Position Summary The Janitor is responsible for the upkeep of building and grounds, maintaining cleanliness and sanitary conditions. This is a regular part time position with a workweek expectation of 28 hours per week. $16.37 to $19 per hour, 25 hours a week 1604 East Lake Street, Mpls, MN 55407 This is a temporary position, filling in for our current janitor. Qualifications High School diploma or GED preferred. Experience in janitorial work desired. Ability to accept supervision and instruction. Demonstrate ability to perform independently. Possess a positive attitude, and work well with others. Valid Driver's License. (Must meet the guidelines provided by the State of residence and the automobile insurance provider as pertaining to corps' passenger vans/buses.) Must pass The Salvation Army background checks and meet the MVR driver's qualifications. Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of The Salvation Army. It must be understood by the incumbent that the position is subject to the requirements of Safe From Harm upon commencement of employment and that the required Safe From Harm training program must be satisfactorily completed, within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities This job description is not all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential duties of the position. Other duties, responsibilities and tasks may be assigned by corps officer/administrator. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors and subordinates. Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every donor, contact and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind. Engage all community members (including and not limited to, clients, participants, visitors, volunteers, etc.) in a way that brings them to the Corps for programming, activities, events, and Pathway of Hope Clean commercial kitchen and dining room daily and deep clean as instructed. Broom sweep all floors, vacuum all carpeted areas, mop floors daily, buff/polish tile floor according to schedule, and clean up spills in all areas. Clean all glass, wood surfaces, and stainless steel surfaces using proper cleaning methods. Clean and sanitize all restrooms and fill all dispensers; soap, paper towel, toilet paper. Clean and vacuum chapel and pew chairs, clean hallways, entrances and reception areas daily. Clean and vacuum office areas when asked by supervisors. Collect and empty trash from kitchen daily. All other areas as needed. Arrange, set up, and prepare rooms for all Corps programs as instructed. Keep all maintenance and janitorial supplies in good order. Inform the office, in writing, when low on supplies. Keep janitor's room in orderly and clean fashion. Clean outside grounds daily. Shovel snow from sidewalks as necessary. Perform heavy cleaning when necessary. Report safety hazards to supervisors immediately. Make minor independent judgments based on prescribed procedures and policies when cleaning. Maintain Corps vehicles in a cleanly and tidy manner. All other duties as assigned. Working Conditions There are normally no hazardous or significantly unpleasant physical working conditions, with the exception of the occasional emotional distress or turmoil (due to varying situations) with and between staff and/or clients. Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Risk Level Risk Level 1 - The tasks or activities conducted by Risk Level 1 workers would involve no expectation of exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Repetitive Motion Movements frequently and regularly required using the majority of the body. Physical Requirements Variety of Work; with some prolonged standing, walking, bending, climbing. Exerts up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Talking Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions, information, and ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. Travel The incumbent may be required to travel by personal vehicle, organization vehicle or other mode of travel supporting the mission of The Salvation Army. Visual Abilities Average, ordinary, visual activity necessary to prepare or inspect documents. Mental Activities and Requirements of Position Reasoning Ability Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. Able to interpret various instructions. Mathematics Ability Ability to perform basic math skills, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and percentages. Language Ability Ability to speak read and write fluent English. Ability to read a variety of written materials. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
