JOB SUMMARY:

The Event Support Specialist at the Mission Event Center keeps the facility clean, organized, and welcoming for all guests. This fast-paced role is involved in every stage of an event, managing everything from the initial room setup to the final cleanup. Working both independently and with a team, the specialist maintains the highest standards of presentation before, during and after events.

Day-to-day tasks focus heavily on venue preparation, maintenance, and guest satisfaction. The specialist physically sets up and arranges furniture, stages, and equipment according to event plans, and breaks down the spaces once an event concludes. To maintain high standards of hygiene, the role requires performing regular cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting restrooms, and managing trash disposal.

This position requires attention to detail, good time-management skills, and flexibility to adapt to changing needs. Following safety schedules and cleaning rules is essential to keeping the venue safe and appealing. Candidates must be reliable team players who are ready to assist colleagues and perform other duties assigned by the supervisors or department head.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:• High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.• Six (6) months of custodial, janitorial, or event setup experience preferred, or a strong willingness and ability to learn through hands-on training.EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:• Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.• Applicant must take and pass a drug, physical, and pre-placement screening administered by the City of Mission doctor at the City's expense.• Applicant must have a current valid Class "C" driver license issued by the Texas department of Public Safety with no more than two (2) moving traffic violations within the past two (2) years.

SKILL ABILITY REQUIREMENT:• Communication & Comprehension: Ability to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions in English (at a minimum 9th-grade level), including the capability to interpret city safety, health, and operational policies.• Operational Efficiency: Ability to handle and operate tools and machinery skillfully, perform repetitive tasks continuously, and manage a variety of routine activities efficiently without losing productivity.• Independence & Problem Solving: Ability to work independently without constant supervision, applying individual thought to successfully complete assigned tasks.• Workplace Safety: Ability to distinguish colors by sight or memory to accurately follow color-coded safety regulations and procedures.• Professional Relationships: Ability to establish and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and venue guests.• Operational Knowledge: Ability to learn and follow the proper sequence of activities, schedules, and workflows required to complete daily tasks efficiently.• Scheduling Flexibility: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the event calendar.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:• Facility Maintenance: Keep the Mission Event Center or assigned city buildings clean, orderly, and presentable. Task include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, washing windows, and keeping outside walkways and driveways free of debris.• Floor & Equipment Care: Safely operate specialized equipment such as buffers, floor scrubbers, vacuums, steam cleaner to maintain various floor surfaces clean.• Event Setup & Breakdown: Move, arrange, and set up tables, chairs, desks, dance floors, and staging according to event directions and layouts.• Hygiene & Restroom Sanitation: Deep-clean and disinfect restroom fixtures, empty trash, and replenish essential supplies like soap, towels, and toilet paper.• Chemical & Supply Safety: Safely mix water, detergent, and cleaning chemicals according to exact specifications, and maintain an accurate inventory of supplies.• Light Maintenance: Replace burned-out light bulbs and HVAC filters as scheduled and periodically checks kitchen equipment to ensure proper working conditions.• Safety & Security: Identify and remove potential health or safety hazards in and around the building, maintain facility security according to city policies, and submit timely reports to the supervisors.• Professional Conduct & Compliance: Perform all job duties with a focus on safety, health, proper procedures, and positive public relations.• Schedule & Meeting Adherence: Follow specific work schedules and attend required meetings as directed by the supervisors.• Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain a sufficient on-site inventory of materials, tools, and equipment to ensure uninterrupted operations.• General Maintenance: Perform minor and routine facility maintenance, including basic painting, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks.NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS• Minor Administrative Tasks: Assist with basic clerical duties, such as answering directional questions for guests, directing vendors to loading zones, or taking quick messages when administrative staff are unavailable.• Basic Event Assistance: Assist clients or decorators with minor, non-cleanup requests during an event, such as moving a lightweight display or adjusting a banner, provided it does not interfere with primary duties.• Errands and Light Erratic Tasks: Run on-site or local errands to retrieve extra supplies, tools, or materials as requested by the supervisors.EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS: General office and safety equipment/materials to include but not limited to the following:• Floor & Cleaning Equipment: Commercial vacuum cleaner, power buffing machine, automatic floor scrubbing machine, carpet extractor, mop, broom, brush, and microfiber cloth.• Chemicals & Cleaning Supplies: Sanitizer, disinfectant, floor wax, detergent, specialized cleaning chemicals, and utility carts/buckets.• Event Setup & Handling Tools: Pallet jack, platform dollies, panel carts (for tables and chairs), and utility carts.• Maintenance & Hand Tools: Small power tools (cordless drills), basic hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, pliers), tool pouches, rakes, and step/extension ladders.• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Safety glasses, heavy-duty and chemical-resistant gloves, safety waist belt and harness, raincoat. • Personnel Policy ManualMANUAL DEXTERITYGross and Fine Motor Skill: Require gross and fine finger dexterity to safely operate small power tools, handle maintenance equipment, and perform precise adjustments during event setups.Hand Manipulation and Grip: Require strong gross hand manipulation to grip, carry, and operate commercial brooms, mops, buckets, floor buffers, blowers, ladders, and various cleaning materials required for heavy facility maintenance.
