Job Overview Primary Work Address: 4000 Jones Bridge Road, Chevy Chase, MD 20815. Responsibilities Build production AI systems with the team, working inside a delivery team alongside engineers, architects, and business partners. Co‑design AI systems, select algorithms as design choices, and defend model selection across techniques (LLMs, gradient‑boosted trees, logistic regression, etc.). Apply software engineering best practices: versioning, testing, code review, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, cost controls, and operational ownership. Design evaluation methodology (precision, recall, calibration, drift, business outcome metrics, A/B tests) before production deployment. Own deployment and operations, including automation of releases, monitoring, runbooks, and on‑call responsibilities. Document and hand off systems to vertical teams, ensuring operational continuity and knowledge transfer. Communicate model and engineering trade‑offs to business stakeholders and engineering peers. Qualifications Enterprise product engineering background with proven experience building and shipping production enterprise systems. At least two years of production machine learning or deep learning experience beyond generative AI. Strong proficiency in Java and Python. Familiarity with agentic AI frameworks such as LangGraph or Strands. Experience designing evaluation methodology for production ML systems, running A/B tests, and applying statistical inference. Fluency with infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform or comparable), container orchestration, CI/CD, and deployment automation. Cloud‑agnostic mindset: ability to design systems that are not tied to a single cloud provider and move fluidly across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Self‑mandated degrees: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; at least six years of hands‑on software engineering experience, with at least three years building and shipping production ML or DL systems. Nice to Have Familiarity with front‑end frameworks (React or comparable) for building end‑to‑end user‑facing AI features. Production experience with vector databases, retrieval systems, or knowledge graphs. Familiarity with MLOps tooling: model registries, feature stores, training pipeline orchestration. Prior experience in research, academic, or mission‑driven institutional environments. What This Role Is Not This role is not a pure prompt‑engineering role, a data engineering role, a research role focused on publishing, or a role for early‑career engineers. It requires comprehensive production experience across software engineering, machine learning, deep learning, and cloud‑native infrastructure. Compensation and Benefits Pay Range: $146,947.20 (minimum) – $183,684.00 (midpoint) – $238,789.20 (maximum) per year. Pay Type: Annual.
