Medical Support Assistant (OA)

Summary

About the Position: This position is in the America Bldg (19) on the 5th floor. A typical work day is 8 hours, Monday through Friday. The applicant should expect a variety of responsibilities which require clear and complete communication with customers, and balancing of phone and in-person needs.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Help

• Maintain and monitor patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice.
• Enter and retrieve patient information in a manner that efficiently supports direct patient care by the clinic's staff providers.
• Manage electronic records and files/intake sheets.
• Contribute to patient management, customer service, and teamwork by interacting with patients and staff in a professional manner.
• Maintain all patients' records, both electronic and paper, according to regulations.
• Perform clerical duties inherent to the in-processing (reception/admission) and out processing (transition/discharge) of patients, families/caregivers and guests.
• Monitor quantity of forms and supplies at workstation, requesting additional supplies when needed.
• Inform supervisor of anticipated problems and provide solutions.
• Complete end of the day reconciliation and reconcile inpatient appointments for assigned providers.
• Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of clinic and business operations and processes, with the ability to solve problems when appropriate.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical and/or receptionist duties; entering information into an automated system; providing customer service to patients and/or customers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
