About the Role:

As a Deli Associate, you will be the face of our deli counter. Serving customers with knowledge, care, and enthusiasm. You’ll help create an inviting and engaging environment while preparing and presenting high-quality deli items. This position is perfect for someone who loves food, enjoys working with people, and values craftsmanship and authenticity in culinary experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Greeting customers warmly and assisting with product selections
• Prepare and package all deli items - such as salads, hot/cold entrees, fresh pasta, and charcuterie meats
• Slice, weigh, wrap, and label meats using proper food safety procedures
• Familiarize yourself with our menus, products and services provided in-store/online
• Ensure your daily assigned case is properly stocked throughout the day - replenish salads, entrees, pastas, meats, paper & plastic, when needed
• Follow opening/closing procedures, check in with team to ensure daily tasks are completed
• Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently using POS, assist customers by bagging items
• Ability to properly handle cash and apply basic math skills
• Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, including proper food handling and sanitation procedures
• Assist in other areas as needed

Skills of the Role:

• Prior deli, food service, or hospitality experienced preferred, but not required – we’re happy to train the right person!
• A genuine passion for food and customer service
• Ability to work independently and as a close-knit team
• Attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and safety
• Adaptable

Physical Requirements:

• Stand for extended periods of time, 7+ hours
• Ability to lift, push, pull, carry between 30-40 lbs
• Ability to properly use and operate meat slicers, knives, pasta cutting machines, scissors, etc.

Certifications Provided:

• Food Handler Certification
• CA Harassment Prevention Training

Rockridge Market Hall is Oakland’s marketplace, a collection of eight owner-operated shops, each expert in their crafts, creating the building blocks of home dining, creative cooking and festive entertaining. When owners, and siblings, Sara, Peter and Tony Wilson purchased the BART adjacent property and started building in 1987, the food world was coming out of a convenience-induced slumber and there was a burgeoning excitement about real food. The Wilsons gathered co-conspirators (Paul Marcus Wines was one of the first tenants) to establish a spirit of independence and dedication to quality in the DNA of Rockridge Market Hall. The Wilsons and the merchants behind each of the shops, the employees and the customers are all part of this Oakland institution. Rockridge Market Hall is proud to be a business in this risk-taking, diverse and passionate city.
