Job Description
Pediatric Neuropathologist
Our organization is on the lookout for a Pediatric Neuropathologist to join the expanding Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, which currently comprises 18 faculty members within a highly regarded pediatric healthcare system. The ideal candidate will bring specialized knowledge in pediatric neuropathology and will play a vital role in fostering a collaborative academic and clinical atmosphere aimed at enhancing pediatric patient care, education, and research.
The selected individual will act as a clinical attending in pediatric neuropathology, contributing to a dynamic pathology service that assesses over 200 neurological cases and nearly 500 neuropathology specimens each year. Key clinical duties will involve the interpretation of pediatric central nervous system tumors, neuromuscular pathology specimens, epilepsy-related resections, and various complex neuropathological conditions. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with esteemed pediatric neurosciences and neuro-oncology programs, including multidisciplinary initiatives focused on pediatric brain tumors, epilepsy surgery, neuromuscular diseases, neurogenetics, and developmental neuroscience.
Our organization has established a robust and growing partnership with a leading neurological institute, which opens up unique avenues for collaboration in clinical care, translational research, and education within the broader Phoenix academic medical community. The successful candidate will collaborate with pediatric neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, oncologists, and physician-scientists who are engaged in advanced neuro-oncology, precision medicine, molecular diagnostics, and investigational therapeutics. The academic environment in Phoenix is enriched by partnerships with various institutions, fostering a vibrant ecosystem for neuroscience research and innovation.
This role offers the flexibility to tailor responsibilities based on individual experience and interests. Candidates may choose to concentrate primarily on pediatric neuropathology or broaden their focus to include adult neuropathology and pediatric surgical pathology. Opportunities abound for teaching, translational and clinical research, biobanking, molecular neuropathology initiatives, program development, and leadership within the Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Those with interests in pediatric neuro-oncology, molecular diagnostics, digital pathology, AI-enabled image analysis, or neuroscience-focused translational research will find ample opportunities for collaboration and professional growth.
Faculty appointments with affiliated medical colleges are encouraged, and the rank will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications.
Qualified candidates should hold an MD or DO degree and be board certified or board eligible in Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology. Completion of a fellowship in Neuropathology is mandatory, with a preference for additional expertise in pediatric neuropathology. While fellowship training in pediatric pathology is advantageous, it is not a requirement. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in Arizona. Strong diagnostic abilities, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the capacity to work effectively with multidisciplinary clinical teams, trainees, and researchers are essential.
About Our Organization
Recognized nationally as a leading center for pediatric medical care, research, and education, our organization serves the fourth-largest pediatric market in the fifth-largest city in the United States, covering the Phoenix/Scottsdale/Tempe metropolitan area and beyond. We are rapidly expanding to improve patient access, with multiple ambulatory facilities and plans for additional satellite hospitals throughout the region.
Our main campus, located in central Phoenix, is a comprehensive, freestanding tertiary medical center with over 500 licensed beds, contributing to more than 650 beds across the healthcare system. It features Arizona's only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and offers a wide array of pediatric specialty services, including neurosciences, orthopedics, cardiovascular medicine, neonatology, and treatment for cancer and blood disorders. Our organization employs over 8,000 staff members, including more than 900 physicians and advanced practice providers.
As a teaching hospital, we are dedicated to training the next generation of pediatric healthcare providers through residency programs and fellowships, and we actively engage in clinical research, allocating approximately $10 million annually to support these activities. Our organization is the only children's hospital in Arizona recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best Children's Hospitals and consistently ranks among Becker's Hospital Review's Top Places to Work in Healthcare.
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their CV, a cover letter outlining their clinical and research interests, along with three references.
