Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview Animal Medical Center of Greeneville is located an hour from the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We are a full‑service small animal hospital that offers digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, therapeutic laser, surgical laser, dental and dental radiography. Every day provides opportunities to further your knowledge in surgery—both soft tissue and orthopedics—as well as medicine cases. Our clients and their furry companions complete our day, and we invite you to be a part of it! Responsibilities Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in the following areas: Gathering patient histories Performing physical examinations Creating treatment plans Conducting diagnostics Providing dentistry services Observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures Managing medical care of patients Practicing communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients Externs will also observe and participate in the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, gaining valuable hands‑on clinical experience within a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners. Duration and Schedule Most externship experiences at Animal Medical Center of Greeneville range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students—regardless of class year—are encouraged to participate. Travel / Living Stipend Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
