University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking Psychiatric Nursing Assistants to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses. Medicine Psychiatric Inpatient Unit (3BT): This Unit is a 15-bed secure unit that serves adult patients who have acute physical illnesses in conjunction with an acute psychiatric disorder. 3BT is one of only a few such specialized medical/psychiatric units in the country. Position Responsibilities: Interacts with patients, visitors and other health care professionals in an effective manner and maintains positive, cooperative professional relationships. Communicates with patients in a respectful, therapeutic, recovery-oriented manner. Establishes therapeutic relationship while caring for patient and terminates the relationship when the patient is discharged. Recognizes potential hazards for staff, patients, visitors or self and initiates appropriate action to correct the problem. Performs treatments and tasks as assigned and delegated. Demonstrates appropriate responsiveness to instruction, feedback and coaching. Assists with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. Implements the plan of care under the direction of the registered nurse. Assists with provisions of patient care with regard to the patient's condition and age. Assists with turning, positioning, ambulating, and transporting patients. Uses proper body mechanics and ergonomic equipment, as indicated. Follows standard precautions with infection control in accordance with institutional policy. Uses effective violence prevention strategies and functions effectively as a violence management team member when violence cannot be prevented. Percent of Time: 100% Schedule: 40 hours per week, rotating shifts, every other weekend and rotating holidays.
