Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3 (12hr) shifts combo between 7am-7pm and 10am-10pm, with every 3rd weekend Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 0 years minimum License: Must hold and maintain a Registered Nursing license. Certifications: Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC required; ATCN preferred. Must-Have: Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required. Description: The Registered Nurse position is responsible for coordinating the nursing care of patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Patients may range in age from pediatric to geriatric. Patients may present at any point on the continuum from illness to wellness. The position involves performing all aspects of direct patient care and working with other disciplines and ancillary services in the care provided. Essential job duties include planning, implementing, and evaluating all levels of patient care. The RN will perform age-appropriate assessments and provide safe and effective care to all ages. The RN will perform triage according to the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) 5 level triage process. Documentation using medical terminology is required to maintain an ED record that is medically and legally acceptable. This record should reflect all nursing care provided and the patient's response to the care given. Collaboration with all providers, peers, ancillary departments, and outside agencies is essential to provide efficient, cost-effective, optimum patient care. The RN coordinates the care needs of multiple patients. It is important for the RN to prioritize patient care to ensure needs are met in a timely fashion and that quality care is delivered. Enhancing patient flow is also a critical function of this role. Verbal communication of patient needs must be concise and reasoned. The RN advocates for patients through communication with providers, peers, and ancillary departments, utilizing the chain of command when necessary. Active participation in developing professional goals is expected. All required education, audits, and in-services should be completed within the allotted timeframe. Patient and family knowledge and discharge needs must be assessed and addressed. The RN monitors life support and automated technical equipment. Routine and complex treatments, including medication administration and emergency resuscitation protocols, are part of the duties. The RN is responsible for inserting and safely administering IV fluids, blood and blood products, and other parenteral fluids. A calm, efficient response to crises is essential, with the ability to direct others clearly. Delegation is used appropriately, and compliance with legal consent and transfer protocols is required. Maintaining patient rights and ensuring the appropriateness of care is crucial. The RN must rapidly solve issues and deliver calm, efficient care in high-stress situations. Equipment and supplies must be maintained properly. All checklists should be completed, supplies put away, and rooms stocked as delegated before leaving each shift. The RN participates in providing educational experiences for pre-hospital emergency providers and other students. Proficiency in computerized documentation of patient care is necessary. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
