Strategic General Counsel

Overbrook Asset Management is a vertically integrated real estate investment firm focused on acquiring, operating, and repositioning multifamily housing throughout the Southeast. Our portfolio spans conventional, affordable, and HUD-assisted housing, with a particular focus on operationally intensive opportunities where execution creates value. We are seeking a highly entrepreneurial attorney to join our team as a strategic partner to ownership. This is not a traditional in-house counsel role. We are not looking for someone whose primary focus is contract review and legal issue spotting. We are looking for someone who understands business, negotiations, transactions, and value creation, and who can use their legal background as a basis to operational and transactional value. Responsibilities Lead and manage conventional and HAP-related transactions Negotiate with lenders, municipalities, housing authorities, vendors, and counterparties. Coordinate with outside counsel on legal matters as necessary. Drive projects from inception through execution with minimal oversight. Ideal Candidate J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law. 5+ years of relevant experience in real estate, affordable housing, finance, or transactional law. Experience with HAP transactions is strongly preferred. Strong commercial instincts and business judgment. Highly entrepreneurial and comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment. Excellent negotiator with the ability to balance relationships and outcomes. Self-starter who enjoys solving problems and taking ownership of projects. Interested in becoming deeply embedded in a growing real estate platform rather than functioning solely as legal support. What Makes This Role Different This position offers a seat at the table.
