HIGH SCHOOL (CTE) HEALTH SCIENCE TEACHER 2026- 2027

ADVANCED TECHNICAL CENTER

Reports to: Building Principal

Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale

Days: 187

Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate in-person and distance or virtual instruction designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of subjects assigned

General knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for online learning

Strong knowledge of Internet and web-related technology

Ability to instruct students and manage behavior

Ability to instruct students using a variety of technology applications and platforms

Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to support students with computer set-up, navigation, and technology issues

Experience:

Student teaching or approved internship, or related work experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Develop and implement plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required
  2. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in learning styles in students
  3. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations
  4. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  5. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
  6. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  7. Work with other members of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements
  8. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s)
  9. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
  10. Provide timely feedback to students and track progress through a variety of methods.
  11. Conduct ongoing assessment and feedback related to student achievement through formal and informal methods.
  12. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the school
  13. Be a positive role model for students, support the mission of the school district
  14. Create an in-person and virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  15. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
  16. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  17. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
  18. Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents.
  19. Effectively communicate to present information accurately and clearly to students and parents on a regular basis in person, via phone, video conference, email, or district-approved website.
  20. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members
  21. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
  22. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills
  23. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
  24. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  25. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s)

Serve as mentor to student teachers

Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer, phone systems, video/instructional equipment, and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged siting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment

Environment: Work inside from school, home, or location other than school building, may work outside; regular exposure to noise and computer monitors

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
