Feed Distribution and Fleet Manager

Braswell Milling Company, Inc.

Location: Nashville, NC

Position Summary:

The Feed Distribution & Fleet Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all company-wide transportation and fleet operations across multiple locations. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and cost-effective management of fleet maintenance and repairs, transportation routing, regulatory compliance, driver recruitment and training, fleet acquisitions, and third-party distribution services. The Feed Distribution & Fleet Manager is accountable for maintaining fleet readiness and reliability by coordinating repairs and preventive maintenance, managing vehicle assignments and mileage tracking, overseeing equipment renewals, and partnering with vendors and suppliers to secure necessary parts and services. The role also provides operational support to drivers in the field and ensures transportation activities align with company objectives and customer expectations.

Key Duties, Skills & Abilities:

  • Oversees transportation department, including its assets and employees.
  • Serves as backup to the Logistics and Egg Supply Chain Manager for egg movement and supplies.
  • Available 24/7 for emergencies and handling after-hours driver issues or breakdowns.
  • Manages all fleet vehicles to include purchase, service and repair, risk and liability, government compliance, etc.
  • Manages a team of mechanics that work in the shop repairing equipment and vehicles.
  • Manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects. Leads all distribution and transportation planning and strategic activities.
  • Ensure eggs and feed move from processing through the supply chain.
  • Manages shipment routes directly to include feed and eggs.
  • Manages performance of employees with emphasis on productivity, efficiency, and service delivery.
  • Recruits, interviews, selects, trains and mentors transport drivers.
  • Directs activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking transportation vehicles.
  • Plans, organizes and manages the work of subordinate staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements.
  • Directs investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints.
  • Implements schedule and transportation procedure changes.
  • Collaborates with other managers and staff members to create and implement transportation-related policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  • Monitors operations to ensure that team members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules and government regulations.
  • Promotes safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
  • Monitors spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
  • Conducts investigations in cooperation with government agencies to determine causes of transportation accidents and to improve safety procedures.
  • Recommends or authorizes capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment or property to increase efficiency and services of operations department.
  • Conducts employee training sessions on subjects such as hazardous material handling, employee orientation, quality improvement and computer use. Manages Biosecurity measures and Business Continuity planning regarding transportation at all locations. Plans and oversees transportation logistics during emergencies or inclement weather situations.
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal and State regulatory requirements; Department of Transportation, Sec. 404, Internal/External Audits, Driver Qualification Files, Hours of Service, and random drug testing.
  • FSMA compliant
  • Assists with maintaining solid relationships with suppliers, current customers and potential customers
  • Demonstrates ability to manage personnel to achieve these KPIs and to encourage the team's adherence to Braswell's Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Helping to drive all of BFF's Environment Management Systems (EMS) in an impactful manner to include monitoring/reducing operationally related negative effects on the environment as well as pollution prevention.
Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret complex documents such as market data, financial reports, maintenance instructions, and technical manuals. Ability to effectively write reports and communicate via email, in-person or telephone. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to speak Spanish is a definite plus.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform complex mathematical functions on spreadsheets to include writing formulas and creating pivot tables. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to resolve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

MS Office

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Must have a Commercial Drivers License (Class A CDL) and be able to pass DOT physical exam and DOT drug test
  • Must have a forklift license

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles. The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and rarely exposed to caustic chemicals and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
