Automotive Technician

Assigned to: Fleet Maintenance - Central Garage. Open until filled - don't wait to apply! Heated Floors $1,000 yearly tool reimbursement allowance $225 yearly boot allowance. As an Automotive Technician, your day starts at 8:00 a.m. with assignments from the Fleet Service Writer. You'll diagnose, service, and repair a variety of City vehicles and equipment, keeping our fleet safe, reliable, and ready to serve the community.

The work includes everything from light- to medium-duty vehicles, such as police vehicles, half-ton trucks, and sedans, to equipment such as mowers, tractors, and skid steers. You'll work in a great team environment with a well-equipped shop featuring heated floors to keep you comfortable during the winter months. Technicians are required to provide their own tools.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding customer service and knowledge pertaining to engines, drive trains, heating and air conditioning systems, and servicing. The hours of operation are from 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Incumbents are responsible for performing routine preventative maintenance and repair on vehicles and equipment in the Municipal Fleet. Reporting structure: Receives direct supervision from higher-level supervisory and management staff.

Typical Class Essential Duties

1. Performs routine preventive maintenance on vehicles and/or equipment to include oil changes, tire inspection, fluids, etc. may utilize computerized diagnostics.

2. May be assigned to the Municipal Golf Course to perform regular maintenance and repairs on the golf course fleet throughout the season.

3. Performs mechanical repairs and overhaul work on various types of light equipment such as mowers and power tools in addition to light to heavy duty vehicles and trucks. May assist with heavy equipment such as backhoes, front end loaders, graders, dump trucks, tractors, paving equipment, street sweepers, snow plows and other types of municipal fleet.

4. Basic fabrication and repairs on metal parts using welding equipment.

5. Enters daily service notes on work orders including parts and supplies used in vehicle repairs and maintenance.

6. Assists other mechanics in the performance of mechanical repairs as required.

7. Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.

8. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

• Learn to accurately determine mechanical repair needs and estimate the cost and time of repairs.

• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

• Follow written and verbal instructions and direction.

• Follow all City safety rules and procedures and immediately report all accidents/incidents or unsafe conditions to a supervisor.

Training, Experience & Certifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.

• Six months of experience performing automotive maintenance and repair work.

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

LICENSING and CERTIFICATIONS

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Wyoming driver's license preferred.

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up-to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up-to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Incumbent may be subject to moving mechanical parts, dusts, fumes, odors, dusts, gasses, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, high vibration, extreme climate/weather conditions, and high noise levels using various equipment types.
