General Function Under the general supervision of the Director of Major Gifts, the Grants Manager is a critical, donor-facing member of MFS’s high-performing development team. This role is responsible for managing the full grant lifecycle—prospect research and cultivation, proposal development and submission, award management when applicable, and reporting. The role also requires proactive participation in donor relations, current and prospective funder meetings, and broader development activities. The Grants Manager combines strong grant writing, stewardship, and reporting skills with relationship-building and solicitation responsibilities to bring in revenue, deepen funder engagement, and support organizational fundraising goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Full Grant Cycle Management: Lead identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundation, corporate, and government grant opportunities aligned with MFS priorities. Develop and implement grant strategies and prospects that contribute to measurable revenue goals. Draft, submit, and manage competitive grant proposals and budgets with high quality and on deadline. Oversee post-award grant management, as needed—including tracking funder deliverables, budgets, compliance and reporting requirements, and timelines. Support the preparation and submission of timely, accurate grant reports ensuring documentation of outcomes, metrics, and expenditures that meet funder expectations. Maintain systems for tracking grant progress, deliverables, and reporting schedules; proactively elevate and resolve issues that could affect compliance or funding. Donor and Partner Engagement: Serve as a public-facing representative of MFS to funders and partners; cultivate and steward relationships through meetings, site visits, and regular communications. Prepare donor and funder-facing materials, proposal briefings, and meeting content; participate in donor and partner meetings alongside senior development staff. Coordinate stewardship plans for grant funders, ensuring funder expectations are met and relationships are deepened to encourage renewal and increased support. Collaboration and Team Initiatives: Work closely with the Director of Major Gifts, Programs, Finance, evaluation, and leadership to align proposals with programmatic goals, budgets, and organizational priorities and to collect data needed for reporting. Collaborate with the Development Team on integrated fundraising campaigns, events, and donor engagement activities; contribute to team planning, strategy, and performance tracking. Maintain close, productive working relationship with data and evaluation team. Support the collection of impact data, stories, and evaluation information to strengthen proposals and reports. Enter and maintain accurate grant and donor data in the donor database; ensure alignment with established data practices and reporting requirements. Operations, Compliance and Systems: Create and maintain clear systems and calendars for grant deadlines, reporting, documentation, and recordkeeping. Ensure compliance with funder terms, organizational policies, and grant reporting requirements; as needed, prepare internal briefings to inform leadership of grant statuses and obligations. Perform other development-related duties as assigned. Attend supervision meetings with the Director of Major Gifts. Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 5+ years of experience in nonprofit grant writing, full-cycle grant management (prospecting through reporting), fundraising operations, and donor relations, with a proven track record of securing foundation, corporate, or government grant revenue. Demonstrated ability to cultivate and steward funder relationships and to participate effectively in donor meetings and solicitations. Strong grant writing, proposal development, budget preparation, and reporting skills, with experience producing timely narrative and fiscal reports that meet funder requirements. Proficiency with a donor/grant database (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or similar) and comfort working with data. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate program impact into compelling donor messaging. High attention to detail, strong project management skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Reliable transportation and ability to transport event supplies/materials as needed. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Experience securing grants and implementing fundraising efforts at a nonprofit with a $10M+ budget. Demonstrated track record of successful grant renewals, multi-year funding relationships, and strong post-award stewardship. Understanding of local fundraising climate, including familiarity with viable foundations and corporations. Education and Experience Requirements Minimum of a BA/BS in communications, non-profit management, business or related, relevant and equivalent experience. Experience with donor research tools and prospect identification. Work Environment There is opportunity for hybrid work with supervisor approval. In-person work is performed in an office environment, at events, and/or at other locations as deemed necessary. May require occasional early morning, weekend or evening work. Position requires ability to sit for extended periods as well as stand occasionally. Position requires use of computer, telephone, copier and may require accessing locations by use of stairs. This position will work as needed at our Gresham office located at 1700 NW Civic Drive, Gresham, OR 97030. Employee must be available to work throughout the Portland Metro area. Other Requirements Personal transportation allowing for travel within the Portland Metropolitan area in a timely manner. If driving a personal vehicle, must maintain a valid driver license for the state of residency, personal auto liability insurance coverage and a driving record permitting coverage under the agency auto liability policy.
