Job Description Grade/s: PreK3 - 8 (Special Education Teachers are typically assigned to a grade band/s as determined by need) Direct Supervisor/s: Campus Principal This posting is for the 2026-2027 School Year.

Special Education teachers work under the direct supervision of the campus principal and receive additional support from the Student Support Services Department at Central Office. Special Education teachers are expected to help create an inclusive environment, set high expectations, and deliver targeted instruction for students with disabilities. The ideal candidate is highly knowledgeable about the Common Core State Standards and research-based instructional strategies for diverse learners.

The ideal candidate is highly knowledgeable about the Common Core State Standards and research-based instructional strategies for diverse learners.
General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Use various sources of data for purposes of IEP development and amendments, developing lessons, and determining students progress toward goals; write IEP progress reports using student data describing progress toward goals
- Plan and deliver meaningful instruction in and outside the general education classroom that aligns with grade-level Common Core standards, mapped backwards to target students present levels of performance.
- Write and implement IEPs that are designed with student, parent, and general education teacher input, various data sources, target priority skills, and include meaningful accommodations and classroom supports.
- Deliver targeted instruction to students individually or in small groups; use data to track and communicate student progress, and propose adaptations to IEP programming.g
- Support development of behavior intervention plans (BIPs) or informal behavior systems; hold students accountable to high behavioral expectations while supporting their social-emotional development
- Engage families meaningfully to discuss their child's progress and include input on IEPs, evaluation decisions, and Secondary Transition Plans.
- Engage parents and families in their child's academic success by fostering an ongoing relationship centered around hopes and dreams.
- Work collaboratively with general and special education teachers to plan and deliver the general education curriculum
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers to ensure they implement accommodations and supports for students as outlined in their IEP
- Participate in the Center City PCS learning community via PLC's, campus/district professional development, and weekly campus-based grade-level planning sessions
- Reflect on teaching by accepting ongoing informal feedback and implementing changes based on that feedback
- Follow school-wide procedures for attire, behavior, and punctuality (teacher hours are 8:00 AM -4:00 PMM)
- Attend and participate in occasional school events outside of regular school hours
- Master's Degree in Special Education (preferred), or a related field
- Licensure in Special Education, or plans to obtain licensure in Special Education
- Strong familiarity with the Common Core Coherence Map for Math, with experience teaching the Eureka Math curriculum preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience (five years preferred)
- Extensive knowledge of best practices in classroom management, instructional strategies to support diverse learning needs, and use of data to support instruction, with evidence of growth
- Working knowledge of EasyIEP, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Drive strongly preferred
- Must have working knowledge of federal and local special education laws
- References that reflect a high standing with past employers
- Able to lift to 10 pounds and able to stand for long hours
- Must be able to show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19
