Plant Equipment Reliability Technician A day in the life

You start your shift by opening the CMMS, reviewing preventive maintenance tasks and new work orders. A production line flags a fault—an erratic signal on a 480V motor circuit. You isolate energy using strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), trace the issue with a schematic in hand, and restore uptime with a clean repair. Before lunch, you chase down a pneumatic leak that’s starving a cylinder, swap a faulty valve, and verify pressures. In the afternoon, you machine a custom bushing on the lathe to resolve repeat misalignment, then capture the root cause and corrective action in the CMMS. You finish by walking the facility, checking structures and utilities, and coordinating parts with the reliability team so tomorrow’s jobs are ready to go.

What you will do

• Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues to minimize downtime.
• Execute preventative maintenance and perform timely equipment repairs.
• Install, maintain, and repair production machinery, piping systems, and electrical components.
• Diagnose root causes of equipment failures and implement durable corrective actions.
• Fabricate and repair parts using machine tools such as lathes, mills, and grinders.
• Maintain facility structures and plant infrastructure as operational needs arise.
• Complete continuous improvement tasks and assigned maintenance work orders.
• Track work, findings, and updates in the CMMS to ensure accurate maintenance history.
• Collaborate with reliability and maintenance teams on parts, inventory, and scheduling.

Qualifications Minimum

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience spanning mechanical and electrical disciplines.

Preferred

• Associate’s degree in a technical field.
• Background in manufacturing or industrial environments.

Physical requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and on the production floor.
• Lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
• Operate powered industrial equipment safely.
• Adequate vision (including color differentiation) and hearing.
