Exercise PhysiologistThe Exercise Physiologist analyzes a patient's medical history, conducts fitness and stress tests, measures vital signs, and develops individualized exercise prescriptions to improve the patient's overall health and aid in the recovery from various medical conditions according to the physicians' individualized prescription and Plan of Care.Job FunctionsConducts fitness evaluations and functional assessments to identify individual needs, limitations, and any potential risks exercise may poseAssists in the orientation and intake of all new patientsDevelops customized exercise programs based on prescribed goals, including cardiopulmonary training, strength training, flexibility exercises, and rehabilitation protocolsAdministers breathing exercises, dyspnea management, therapeutic exercises, psychosocial assessment/management, work simplification strategies, and assistive technologiesMonitors progress through regular assessments, monitors heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation during exercise sessionsIdentifies potential risks associated with exercise based on medical history and adjusts exercise plans accordinglyProvides patients with education on healthy lifestyle habits, nutrition, and exercise techniques to optimize therapy resultsPerforms cardiopulmonary exercise tests to evaluate cardiopulmonary functions and the presence of any limitationsCommunicates assessments and updates on the patient's Plan of Care with members of the healthcare team and referring physiciansDocuments accurate and complete clinical information in the patient's medical recordMaintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with all applicable rules, regulations, and procedures for safety management and infection controlSchedules patient's appointments for diagnostic and respiratory care servicesEducationBachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field with a concentration in cardiopulmonary health RequiredMaster's Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field with a concentration in cardiopulmonary health PreferredWork ExperienceMinimum of 1-3 years of applicable experience RequiredKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesWork productively with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare teamLicenses and CertificationsAmerican College of Sports Medicine ("ACSM") certification as exercise physiologist RequiredCurrent certification in basic life support with advanced life support certification
