Maintenance Worker

This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the General Services Agency. The anticipated life of the employment list is six months. Perform maintenance and repair work on heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment in buildings as well as plumbing and electrical systems. Check, service and repair mechanical, electrical, refrigeration and heating equipment. Perform semi-skilled or skilled plumbing work. Install electrical wiring and fixtures. Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following. Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth(12th) grade. Experience: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment or in the construction building trades. Knowledge of: Basic maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical systems and equipment. Carpentry, plumbing, pipefitting, and masonry including proper tools. Math sufficient to use precision measuring instruments such as caliper and micrometers. Boilers sufficient to maintain and repair. Skill/Ability to: Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers. Read, understand and use maintenance instruction manuals and blueprints. Organize work in proper step-by-step order. Use manual and power hand tools. Use drill presses, pipe threading machines, power saws and grinders. Explain and interpret technical terms to lay persons. Give and follow written and verbal instructions. Use electrical testing equipment. Observe safe work practices. Observe customer service standards. License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license. NECESSARY CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. A physical exam may be required to ensure the applicant’s fitness for duty. Applicants must undergo a law enforcement background investigation and receive security clearance from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department and maintain that clearance for the duration of employment.
