Staff Data Platform Engineer - Finance

Responsibilities

• Design and implement batch and real-time finance data infrastructure supporting revenue recognition, consumption-based billing, financial reporting, usage pipelines, and forecasting.
• Partner with FP&A, Accounting, RevOps, Finance, Audit, Security, Compliance, and Legal to translate reporting, close-cycle, forecasting, audit, and regulatory requirements into technical architecture.
• Define standards for financial data ingestion, transformation, storage, modeling, ETL, lineage, auditability, governance, and data integrity.
• Build end-to-end production data solutions using Kafka, ClickHouse, Tinybird, Snowflake, and related data technologies.
• Mentor engineers and establish engineering practices appropriate for systems that feed financial statements and board-level reporting.
• Ensure financial pipelines meet SOX, SOC 2, and other regulatory requirements through monitoring, alerting, fault tolerance, high availability, and incident response.
• Drive architecture decisions, roadmap planning, and build-versus-buy evaluations across ERP, billing, and revenue platforms.
• Support forecasting models, incrementality analysis, revenue modeling, and finance and go-to-market target-setting at scale.
• Establish a multi-phase roadmap for finance data platform maturity, scalability, and audit readiness.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or related roles.
• At least 2 years of experience at the Staff, Principal, or Lead Engineer level.
• Demonstrated experience designing and operating large-scale data infrastructure in complex, fast-paced environments.
• Experience with Kafka and its ecosystem, including Kafka Streams or Confluent Platform, as well as ClickHouse, Tinybird, Snowflake, and broader big data frameworks.
• Experience building data pipelines for financial reporting, revenue recognition, billing, or consumption-based pricing models.
• Proficiency with at least one major cloud platform: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong data governance, security, compliance, audit, SOX, SOC 2, lineage, and data accuracy experience.
• Ability to translate finance and accounting requirements into technical architecture and influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor teams, drive consensus, and advocate for best practices.
• Experience with financial or ERP systems such as NetSuite or Workday is a strong plus.
• A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Industry recognition or notable data engineering contributions, including published work or open-source contributions, are a plus.

Benefits

• San Francisco, California base pay range of $260,000–$360,000.
• Total compensation may include benefits, equity-based compensation, and eligibility for a company bonus or variable pay program.
