Role Overview:  

The Regional School Health Liaison will serve as a regional point of contact for all assigned local health departments (LHDs) for school and student health within the northern, central or southern regions. The Regional School Health Liaison will report to the Regional Public Health Nurse Consultant and Regional Division Director. The candidate will provide technical assistance to LHDs to ensure best practices regarding school health initiatives are effectively delivered within their jurisdictions. Technical assistance can include but is not limited to providing evidence-based program recommendations, grant-funding recommendations, LHD school health liaison onboarding support, sharing of best practices from other LHDs, and training support. The successful candidate will work across boundaries to provide support to LHDs so they can best support school health within their jurisdictions. The employee will also work closely with the IDOE Chief Nurse Consultant and multiple divisions within the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) to ensure consistent programming and messaging. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in public health or nursing preferred. Alternative education/experience will be considered on an individual basis. Travel required. NORTH Region: Districts 1-4; CENTRAL Region: Districts 5-7; SOUTH Region: Districts 8-10.

 

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our to view the total compensation package.

 

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Assess current public health issues related to a program area. 
  • Maintain an effective liaison and referral system between the agency, local health departments, health clinics and other service providers. 
  • Direct the development of public health programs, policies and procedure manuals. 
  • Manage a grant or budget for a specific public health program allocating resources and determining expenditures. 
  • Collect and analyze relevant program data and makes available to state and local agencies.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

  • Specialized knowledge in program subject matter (e.g., theories, principles, practices, laws, strategies) obtained through experience and/or education, preferably related to public health but not required 
  • Working knowledge of the organization and function of state and local partners. 
  • Working knowledge of program planning and implementation techniques. 
  • Effective communication skills. 
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other local, state and federal agency staff.

A degree is not required.  However, at least 5+ years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
