Role Overview WSP is an engineering consulting firm that values innovation, collaboration, and professional growth. This role offers an opportunity to work on diverse environmental, oil & gas, mining, and process infrastructure projects. Location Tempe, Arizona; South Jordan, Utah; or Houston, Texas. Work location is based on candidate preference. Your Impact Develop I&C design documents such as design drawings, technical specifications, and design basis calculations. Communicate clearly, foster leadership, and collaborate across disciplines. Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and regulations. Conduct quality reviews of engineering documents and technical specifications. Mentor junior team members in technical excellence and career growth. Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients, and other disciplines. Participate in the design and review of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). Prepare and review control deliverables including control narratives, system architecture diagrams, instrument location layouts, wiring and interconnection diagrams, PLC layouts, and loop drawings. Prepare instrument datasheets, I/O lists, instrument index, instrument selection, and hazardous area classification. Configure and program control equipment such as PLCs, HMIs, DCS systems, and SCADA. Participate in client and project review meetings. Prepare technical bid evaluations and attend FAT. Collaborate with project management to develop budgets, schedules, scoping documents, design criteria, and deliverable lists. Promote engineering professionalism and maintain positive internal and external relationships. Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from an ABET‑accredited program. 5–7+ years of relevant experience in instrumentation engineering. Advanced knowledge of instrumentation engineering and applicable design standards such as API, NFPA, ISA, PIP, IEC, IEEE, ISO, NACE, NESC. Strong written and verbal communication and people‑management skills. Deep understanding of field instrumentation and control systems (PLC, DCS) and industrial networking protocols. Ability to work collaboratively, provide and seek information, and manage multiple projects. Must pass a background check. Desired Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) registration or ability to obtain it within twelve (12) months. Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from an ABET‑accredited program. Current NCEES record. Experience with Design‑Build project execution. Experience leading the design and specification of field instrumentation, control valves, and analyzers for oil & gas, mining, heavy industries, water industries, and process facilities. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other design programs.
