Respiratory Therapist - 8-Week Assignment

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed. Operating within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision, the Respiratory Therapist evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans. They also explain the purpose and procedures of treatments and equipment to patients, ensuring necessary education is provided upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods.
• Monitor patient oximetry and capnography as per policy.
• Review patients' chest x-rays to determine the need for further evaluation.
• Perform 12-Lead EKGs and recognize basic arrhythmias.
• Assist with procedures related to respiratory care, including Bronchoscopy and Chest Tube placement.
• Conduct tracheostomy care and perform arterial puncture according to policy.
• Maintain accurate patient records and communicate therapy efficiency to physicians.
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Maintain and operate ventilatory equipment, ensuring all necessary self-tests and checks are completed.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Active Respiratory Therapist license in the state of practice is required. Candidates should have experience in a hospital setting performing respiratory care procedures and patient evaluations.
