Job Title: Ophthalmic Scribe - Experience Required! Company: Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers Location: Florence, KY 41042 Travel: Travel to our office in Crestwood, KY will be required as needed; mileage reimbursement is paid. Job Summary An Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe assists an Ophthalmologist in providing excellent patient care during visits. The role includes performing preliminary work‑up of patients, scribing for physicians, and directly assisting with examinations and treatments. Key Responsibilities Facilitate patient flow and assist the doctor in preliminary testing. Verify medical and vision insurances, and ensure accurate billing. Communicate effectively with patients, doctors, and managers. Answer inquiries via phone, email, and in‑person requests. Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter. Anticipate physician needs to facilitate clinic workflow. Practice urgency and manage time efficiently. Comply with company policies, procedures, and HIPAA regulations. Record patient medical history, current medications, and visit purpose. Document all data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Perform eye examinations: pupil observation, muscle assessment, visual acuity, extraocular movements. Conduct diagnostic tests such as visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL Master, auto refractor, and topography. Demonstrate knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications. Ensure correct procedure coding/charges and diagnosis codes are used. Prepare patients for treatments and minor procedures; record vital signs. Open and close exam rooms as needed, and maintain cleanliness and supplies. Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by the manager. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED; one year of related experience or equivalent education and experience. Experience as a Medical Scribe or Ophthalmic/Optometric Technician (preferred). Strong customer service skills and basic computer proficiency. Favorable background check results. Ability to work full time, including possible evenings, weekends, and flexible shifts within office hours. Commitment to 40+ hour workweeks when required. Reliable transportation to multiple work locations. Desire to gain industry knowledge and undergo training. Initiative, adaptability, team orientation, and patient‑focused mindset. Proficient keyboarding, EMR and image management system use, and Microsoft Office suite. Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification (preferred). Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) (preferred).
