Position Details Job Title: Med Surg RN Status: Full Time Shift: Night Shift (7:00 pm – 7:00 am) Start Date: September 2026 Schedule: 7pm‑7am Unit Overview Baylor Scott & White – Austin is a full‑service hospital with Magnet recognition for nursing excellence. The Main Nursing Unit is a 24‑bed, blended unit with three levels of acuity staffed by a multidisciplinary team. The hospital also provides 24/7 emergency services (8‑bed ED) and surgical services for adults and pediatrics. Essential Functions Conduct detailed clinical assessments, prioritize patient and family needs, and create, implement, and evaluate care plans. Build therapeutic relationships, manage discomfort, and maintain professional conduct with patients and families. Create care plans that reflect patient values and aid in resolving issues. Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them to make better healthcare choices; assess and document learning needs regularly. Collaborate with colleagues and community partners to develop care plans, delegate tasks appropriately, and follow up promptly. Apply problem‑solving strategies with patients, families, and staff; recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in care delivery. Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, commit to growth, and support peer development and community service. Key Success Factors Deep understanding of nursing and patient‑care standards and procedures. Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines. Proficiency in medical terminology and common medications with side effects. Respect for nursing ethics and patient privacy. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Positive social skills for interactions with diverse parties. Advanced problem‑solving and critical thinking. Basic computer skills: Microsoft Office, electronic medical documentation, scheduling, payroll, email, and information security. Qualifications Graduated from an accredited nursing program. Registered Nurse license. Board of Nursing license and active RN license in Texas. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or obtain within 30 days of starting.
