Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse

Duties

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Promote personal growth and development of psychiatric Mental Health nursing practice.
• Gain awareness of the principles and goals of inpatient Mental Health treatment by understanding practices related to patient-centered care, recovery-oriented principles, and self-awareness related to caring for patients living with Mental Health conditions.
• Attend and observe nurse-led psychoeducational groups, uses therapeutic communication techniques, practices de-escalation techniques, and utilize recovery-oriented language.
• Participate in shift report and warm hand-off, Mental Health interdisciplinary treatment team, Mental Health Environment of Care rounds, and respond psychiatric emergencies as directed.
• Identify safety concerns and hazardous items to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment of care, and document nursing assessments, nursing plan of care, patient safety observations, and environmental safety rounds in accordance with facility policy.
• Maintain professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient.
• Seek guidance on how to improve Mental Health care provided to patients and families.
• Bring Mental Health principles and theory with limited application of critical thinking.
• All other duties as assigned.
