Pafford Medical Services is now accepting applications for an EMT in Southwest Arkansas This includes counties: Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Little River, Miller, Nevada, and Pike.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Provides Basic Life Support, including medical evaluation, treatment, and stabilization of the critically ill and injured; responds to emergency rescue situations involving potential loss of life or bodily injury; maintains control, manages, and directs patient care at the scene of a pre-hospital emergency; provides training and instruction to lesser-trained personnel; performs other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Recognizes and understands a medical emergency and makes reasonable and acceptable differential diagnosis; Performs physical examinations; Understands and anticipates potentially life-threatening presentations of non-cardiac emergencies and institutes appropriate emergency therapy where essential for the preservation of life; Deals with medical and emotional needs of victims of acute illness or injury to reduce morbidity and mortality; Responsible for quality patient care as established by the Company; Files standardized reports of patient information and care for hospital and administrative use, including nature of aid request, pertinent past history, therapy provided, diagnosis, disposition, and billing information; Maintains effective communication with hospital physicians to relate patient condition and obtain treatment orders; Follows standard written protocols when a physician cannot be contacted; Transports the ill and injured to medical facilities; Operates emergency vehicles safely under all conditions; Cleans and maintains equipment; Completes patient statistics and medical information forms accurately; Assists in technical rescues, removing victims from varied terrains and circumstances; Follows standard operating policies and procedures as directed by the Company.

ADDITIONAL WORK PERFORMED:

Cleans and maintains vehicles (minor maintenance); Cleans and maintains living quarters; Maintains records of vehicles, supplies, training, and daily work; Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess and maintain EMT/EMT-B certification; CPR certification for Healthcare Providers.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The supervisor assigns shifts and the scope of work. The incumbent performs work according to procedures, policies, and medical orders, exercising judgment to apply guidelines appropriately. Work is spot-checked and evaluated based on feedback from patients, medical staff, and others. Knowledge of street systems, addresses, physical layouts, rescue, and emergency medical equipment is essential. Ability to: Perform technical medical skills accurately; Understand and address emotional and medical needs of victims; Maintain professionalism and objectivity; Learn new rescue and medical techniques; Perform mechanical work on rescue and medical equipment; Direct and teach others; Follow oral and written instructions; Maintain a professional attitude; Establish effective working relationships; Drive emergency vehicles; and Complete reports with narrative and numeric data. Additionally, incumbents must maintain current knowledge in emergency medicine through ongoing education and seminars, both on and off duty, to uphold certification as required by the state.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The work involves operating emergency vehicles, moving equipment, and extracting injured persons from various situations, often over different terrains. Incumbents must be physically capable of carrying or assisting to carry injured persons to transportation and attending to injured parties at the scene. They must see, hear, and communicate effectively with injured persons. Uniforms issued by the Company must be worn on duty, and all equipment must be maintained and cleaned. Incumbents must carry a Company-issued pager/radio at all times for immediate notification of assignments.
