Recreational Gymnastics Coach

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Recreational Gymnastics Coach provides safe, fun, and engaging gymnastics instruction for children of all ages and skill levels. Coaches help athletes build confidence, develop skills, and enjoy sport in a positive learning environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Coaching

• Teach recreational gymnastics classes following the gym curriculum.
• Instruct athletes on all gymnastics events using age-appropriate progressions.
• Create a positive, safe, and encouraging class environment.
• Manage classes effectively using positive reinforcement and good sportsmanship.
• Complete skill evaluations and communicate athlete progress to the Gym Manager.

Safety

• Follow all gym safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure equipment is used safely and appropriately.
• Teach gym safety to new athletes.
• Respond to injuries and emergencies according to YMCA policies.

Professionalism

• Arrive prepared and on time for all classes.
• Wear the required coaching attire.
• Maintain accurate attendance, evaluations, and time records.
• Always supervise athletes.
• Build positive relationships with athletes, parents, and staff.

Teamwork & Facility

• Communicate regularly with the Gym Manager.
• Arrange a qualified substitute when needed.
• Assist with training new coaches as requested.
• Help keep the gym clean, organized, and welcoming.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED and Child Abuse Prevention Training.
• Maintaining required YMCA safety and program certifications

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Work is performed primarily in a gymnastics facility and recreational sports environment with frequent interaction with children, parents, staff, and program participants.
• Requires maintaining continuous visual and auditory supervision of athletes to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and remain physically active for extended periods throughout coaching shifts.
• Ability to demonstrate basic gymnastics skills, spot athletes safely, and assist participants with skill development
  and proper technique.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Must possess the agility and stamina to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies, injuries, and changing
  activity demands.
• Frequent use of hands, arms, and upper body strength to assist athletes and handle equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with athletes, parents, staff, and volunteers in a busy and active environment.
• Work schedule may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and special events as program needs require.
• Must comply with all YMCA safety standards, child abuse prevention policies, emergency procedures, and risk
  management practices.
