Available Title(s): 164-NN_FACULTY - Clinical Assistant Professor - Career Business Title: Clinical Pathology | Clinical Career Track | Open Rank Employee Type: Faculty Position Term: 12 Month Position Details: The Opportunity: The Washington State University (WSU) Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks to fill a full-time continuous career track (clinical sub-track) Assistant or Associate Professor faculty position within the Clinical Pathology section of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). The position is available immediately. The successful applicant will be expected to provide diagnostic service for the VTH; clinical and didactic instruction of professional veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The opportunity to conduct research/scholarship within the candidate’s area of interest is available. The distribution of effort between clinical service, teaching, scholarly effort and academic service/outreach is negotiable. The successful applicant must be able to effectively communicate and work with people of diverse backgrounds. The successful applicant will join one to two other full-time board-certified clinical pathologists and a dedicated team of two residents, one laboratory manager, two certified medical laboratory scientists, two laboratory assistants, and multiple, trained, DVM student employees. The well-equipped Clinical Pathology Laboratory ( processes over 15,000 patient samples per year. Annual Salary: Assistant Professor: $145,000 - $152,000 Associate Professor: $160,000 - $170,000 In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range. Qualifications for all ranks: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) degree or a related foreign equivalent degree (such as a BVSc) Board-certified or board-eligible in Clinical Pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathology or the European College of Veterinary Pathology by the time of hire. Considerations regarding faculty rank will be determined based on the interests and qualifications of the candidate meeting CVM’s promotion guidelines, as will division of effort. Area Overview: The WSU CVM is organized into five departments/schools, including VCS, Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology (VMP), Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience (IPN), the School of Molecular Biosciences (SMB), and the Paul G. Allen School for Global Health, each dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and service ( We are also home to a tier-one Veterinary National Laboratory (Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory ( with multiple board-certified anatomic pathologists and microbiologists. The VTH is a full-service referral and primary care center that aspires to be the country’s best academic veterinary hospital for patients, students, clients, colleagues, and community. The joint mission of the VTH and VCS is to improve the health and well-being of all animals through excellence in medical care, training future veterinarians, and finding innovative ways to diagnose and treat disease. Dedicated to this vision and mission are more than 60 full-time faculty members and 170 staff and house officers. The VTH is a leading referral center in the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest with over 20,000 patient visits per year as a regional tertiary care facility which provides the Clinical Pathology service with a broad-based caseload. The Clinical Pathology Laboratory provides clinical diagnostic services and professional laboratory expertise nationally and internationally to veterinary hospitals, referring veterinarians, and referring laboratories. Our services include state of the art automated hematology, coagulation, clinical chemistry, blood-gas, and immunoassay analyzers as well as fluid analysis, cytology, and urinalysis which are performed by certified medical laboratory scientists and clinical pathology trained veterinary medicine students. Diagnostic services are provided for multiple species of animals including equine, bovine, canine, feline, exotics, camelids, caprine and others. In addition to services provided on site, services are provided nationally via overnight mail which can be utilized by our clients and customers for comprehensive testing. The clinical pathology laboratory is dedicated to educating current and future veterinarians through pre-clinical teaching, clinical rotations, and residency and graduate student training ( as well as providing services for faculty and resident research projects.
