About the Position

Job Title

CST – CVOR (Certified Surgical Technologist, Cardiovascular Operating Room)

Key Responsibilities

• Work under the supervision and delegatory authority of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of surgical procedures, ensuring the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and patient safety is maximized
• Ensure availability and preparedness of OR rooms, supplies, and equipment needed to support efficient perioperative processes
• Maintain responsibility for sterile instruments, sutures, and equipment necessary for each surgical procedure, with working knowledge of each device
• Perform initial and additional instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator; assist with draping, patient positioning, prepping, and establishing the sterile field
• Participate in surgical site and patient verification during time-out procedures and maintain the highest standard of sterile technique throughout
• Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization and assist the team with terminal cleaning of the OR room

Required Qualifications

• NBSTSA certification required (CST credential through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting only)
• Demonstrated competency in operative pre, intra, and post procedural patient care
• Knowledge of and adherence to infection control precautions, standard precautions, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment
• Ability to assist with lifting, turning, and positioning patients using proper body mechanics
• Must be flexible, punctual, and willing to learn within the surgical environment

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior experience in a cardiovascular or cardiac OR setting
• Familiarity with access control applications and emergency management protocols in the OR
• Experience with specimen handling and preparation procedures
