About the Position The Idaho Falls Police Department (IFPD) is creating a list of eligible candidates for the position of Police Officer. We are continuously accepting applications with passing written exam and physical agility test scores. Testing and Application Process IFPD conducts all police officer testing through PST (publicsafetytesting.com). This allows you to take our written and physical agility tests at various locations around the country, as found on PST’s website. Make sure to select the Idaho Falls Police Department on the PST website when you sign up so we are notified of your results if you aren’t testing in person at IFPD. IFPD will administer the in-person written exam and physical agility test in Idaho Falls periodically. Please check with IFPD about upcoming test dates by calling View phone number on click.appcast.io or emailing View email address on click.appcast.io. You must fill out an application on the City of Idaho Falls website (idahofallsidaho.gov), and you must register for testing through PST’s website. To apply for the written exam and physical agility: Go to Under Sign Up , click on Police Officer Select Idaho under Police/Sheriff/Trooper then click Next Click the checkbox next to IF Police Department then click Next It will guide you through the registration and sign-up process. Please note that there is a charge for the exam. Through Applicants will be able to send their test results to the Idaho Falls Police Department; access information on testing procedures; and choose a testing date, time, and location most convenient for them. For further test dates and locations, or if you have questions about testing, please call PST at View phone number on click.appcast.io or access the information on their website at Responsibilities Patrol & Traffic: Enforces all applicable city, state, laws and ordinances by apprehending, citing and arresting violators as appropriate; investigates criminal activity, gathers evidence, interviews victims, witnesses and suspects and takes appropriate action to solve the case and bring suspects before the proper judicial process; investigates traffic accidents, enforces traffic and parking violations; directs traffic and assists motorists as needed; serves warrants, processes notices, summons and subpoenas and keeps records of disposition. Responds to calls for service and renders aid to distressed citizens by maintaining the peace, supplying information, and aiding in assisting the citizens as applicable. Completes detailed and accurate reports of daily activities, criminal cases, arrests, traffic accidents and other cases as appropriate; presents evidence and testimony in court and other hearings as required. Operates police vehicle and other department equipment in a manner that maximizes its life span and provides the utmost safety for the officer and the public; maintains visible presence to deter and prevent crime; checks building security and illegal activity. Performs ongoing public relations to enhance the image of the department within the community; represents the department by speaking at public meetings and schools to educate and inform citizens; presents a professional image in both appearance and demeanor. Crime Prevention/Gangs/Vice/DARE: Participates in delivering program(s) unique to elementary, Junior High and High schools; focus on safety, drug awareness, alcohol, gang activity, truancy, violence, theft, vandalism, trespassing, traffic, etc.; conducts lectures, workshops, classes, or gives presentations related to criminal activity within the schools to assist school officials; educates participants and youth regarding law enforcement practices; demonstrates specialized equipment, explains its efficiency and effectiveness. Educates public regarding effective action through organized community efforts; develops and delivers domestic violence and child abuse prevention programs. Police Officers receive training in law enforcement principles and procedures, such as criminal investigation, evidence collection, patrol, and traffic procedures; receive training in applicable laws, ordinances, codes, and departmental rules and procedures. Performs departmental public relations functions; delivers public speeches at community gatherings, church meetings, civic meetings, schools, etc.; conducts community liquor compliance checks; acts as trainer to workers performing as servers in establishments that sell alcoholic beverages. School/Campus Resource: Performs in various programs for special target populations of the community as needed to address needs, concerns, and issues pertaining to crime prevention and public relations; performs specialty resource functions by administrative assignment; enforces all applicable city and state laws; may monitor student activities and apprise administration of legal concerns or discipline; conducts investigations on cases involving juvenile offenders; establishes rapport with school officials, students and parents; advises students, parents and school officials in criminal matters; makes arrests as needed. K-9 Officer: Works closely with specially trained Police canine; trains canine daily and weekly; maintains accurate records; prepares reports; ensures proper care and feeding, health, safety of canine; performs necessary cleaning and maintenance of dog, kennel and police vehicle. Investigations/Detective: Performs initial or assigned case investigations; may assist department detective or be assigned major case investigations; performs advanced investigations on various felony crimes; works closely with Sergeants, Lieutenants, Captains, and Police Chief; investigates and follows up on all cases; conducts research and pursues clues; handles business/bank complaints of financial crimes; serves as drug recognition expert; investigates illegal drug trafficking. Specialist: Receives specialized training and provides specialty services for the department; acts as bomb technician, drug specialist, forensic analyst, crime scene analyst, SWAT, sniper, etc. Airport Security: Performs law enforcement duties at the airport, terminal building, passenger screening/boarding facility and Security Identification Display area; conducts security patrols and monitors the airport grounds; ensures security and safety requirements are met; prepares reports and maintains records. Performs related duties as assigned. Eligibility United States citizenship (this is a POST Certification requirement) 21 years of age by date of hire High School Diploma or GED equivalent (copy of transcripts required) A valid driver’s license The ability to successfully complete all testing requirements Good written and oral communication skills The ability to function on a day‑to‑day basis with limited supervision Certified by the Idaho Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) Council within one year of employment Successful candidates must pass a thorough background investigation Successful candidates must pass medical, polygraph and psychological examinations after a contingent offer of employment Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements Tasks require a variety of physical activities involving walking, standing, stooping, sitting and reaching. Essential functions require talking, hearing and seeing. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability, analytical thinking and creative problem solving. Frequent local travel is required. Elements of the job pose various degrees of hazard and uncertainty common to law enforcement.
