Schedule: Part Time, Saturday and Sunday 1pm-11:30pm, 10 hour shifts

Summary:

• The Mental Health Associate assists Registered Nurses in providing direct psychiatric and medical care to patients. The Mental Health Associate participates as a member of the treatment team in creating and maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu.

Responsibilities:

• ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• 1. Assists nurses in the delivery of nursing care, such as bathing, assisting with feeding, ambulating patients, collecting urine samples, and taking vital signs.
• 1. Performs transports as requested (of patients, medications, supplies, and specimens).
• 1. Performs behavioral observations, completes unit rounds, checks, and monitors patients as assigned.
• 1. Responsible for orienting patients to the unit, completing patient searches, securing patient’s valuables, and belongings at admission and discharge.
• 1. Assists in emergencies and codes according to established protocols.

• OTHER JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• 1. Participates as a member of the treatment team to provide individual care to patients based upon psychiatric/ addictions principles through guidance from nursing staff.
• 1. Performs and records nursing care activities, such as changes in a patient’s condition, behavior, and unusual incidents consistent with established policies, procedures, and protocols, as delegated by the registered nurse responsible for the patient.
• 1. Maintains a safe and therapeutic atmosphere for the milieu by enforcing program rules, regulations, and limits.
• 1. Assists is processing new admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• 1. Conducts community meetings, basic psycho-educational and recreational groups.
• 1. Maintains strict standards of confidentiality and adherence to HIPPA standards.
• 1. Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, their families, guests and representatives of other organizations as well as fellow employees, volunteers and medical staff in support of the Medical Center’s mission to provide consistent quality healthcare services in a professional, caring and responsive environment.
• 1. Follows established safety precautions and procedures in the performance of all duties in order to ensure a safe environment. Maintains familiarity with all codes/drills as required.
• 1. Demonstrates responsibility for individual performance and efficient utilization of products, supplies, equipment and time to ensure the timely completion of duties

• also promotes financial viability through provision of services at reasonable cost.

• 1. Supports customer service and performance improvement goals of the department

• collaborates with clinical members of the team, within and outside the department, to enhance patient care and service.

• 1. Provides a variety of other duties related to being a member of the Nursing team and other duties and projects as assigned.

Credentials:

• Driver's License (Required)

• Valid driver’s license in employee's state of residence with a record in good standing with the State of NJ Department of Motor Vehicles.

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers certification from American Heart Association (AHA) required

Education or Equivalent Experience:

• Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)

Salary Range:

$18.11 - $28.86/Hourly
