Republic R-III School DistrictAide - BusThe bus aide will assist the educational process by assisting the transportation of students in a safe, orderly, and timely manner.Qualifications Bus aides should have a sincere desire to enhance the educational experience of children. They must have the ability to work with students, faculty, and the general public in a diplomatic and friendly manner. The following qualifications for bus aides and substitute aides have been established by the Republic R-III School District Board of Education:A bus aide shall be at least 21 years of age at the time he/she applies for this position.A bus aide shall have a diploma of graduation from an accredited high school or must possess a GED equivalent.A bus aide shall obtain and maintain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification.A bus aide shall be in good physical and mental health, free from communicable disease, and have normal use of both hands, legs, and feet. Vision shall be at least 20/40 in each eye, with correction if necessary. Hearing shall be adequate to hear ordinary conversation.Position Classification Support StaffFair Labor Standards Act Non-ExemptAide will report directly to the Director of Transportation.Duties The duties of the bus aide will include, but not limited to the following:Assists students to seats and appropriately secures students in child restraint systems and wheelchair restraint systems if necessary.Assists driver with maintaining discipline on the bus.Provide Non-Violent Crisis Intervention as necessary.Assists driver with emergency bus evacuation if necessary.Provides information on the bus route to substitute drivers on an as needed basis.Understands and abides by confidentiality mandates.Assists special needs children as needed.Address students by name when they are boarding and exiting the bus.Understands and is able to use the wheelchair lift on the bus.Maintains data on students as required.Fosters effective communication with students, parents, and other staff members.Appropriately supervise students before, during, and after the school day as needed.Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervising staff.Revised: July 25, 2019
