About the Company

This is a business that a family built and ran for 25 years before we acquired it. It has real customers, real tenure, and real durability — the kind of company that does not survive a quarter-century by accident.

Since the acquisition we have placed a new CEO, and an interim project CFO has been holding the finance function steady through the transition. That was the right call for the moment. It was never the plan for the long term. The interim seat kept operations running; it did not rebuild the function, and the function needs rebuilding.

We are now hiring the permanent CFO who will do that work.

About the Role

Every part of the finance and accounting structure is open for evaluation. Close process, chart of accounts, systems, reporting, staffing, controls, banking relationships, and the way the business measures itself — you will assess all of it and tell us what stays, what changes, and what has to be built from nothing. Nothing is sacred because it is how it has always been done, and nothing gets torn out because it is old. We expect judgment about the difference.

The mandate is to take a function that was built to run a stable family business and turn it into one that can support growth and expansion — more revenue, more locations or lines, and eventually acquisitions.

This is a partnership role with the CEO. Not a support function, not a scorekeeper. The two of you will run this company together, and we hire CFOs who are willing to be in the room for the operating decisions, not just the ones about money.

The role is on-site in Austin. We are open to relocating the right person.

A note on what this job actually asks of you. You are following an interim and inheriting a team, some of whom have worked here for decades under different owners and a different set of expectations. Rebuilding a function is the easy part. Doing it without breaking the institutional knowledge and loyalty that made this company worth buying is the hard part, and it is the part we will be evaluating.

What You’ll Own

Finance and accounting leadership

• Assess the current finance and accounting function end to end and deliver a plan for what to rebuild, replace, or retain
• Own the monthly close, the financial statements, and their accuracy and timeliness
• Establish internal controls, accounting policies, and a chart of accounts built for a growing business
• Own the annual audit or review, tax strategy and compliance, and outside advisor relationships
• Evaluate, develop, and where necessary restructure the finance and accounting team

Planning, reporting, and capital

• Own the annual budget, rolling forecast, long-range plan, and 13-week cash flow forecast
• Build the reporting the company does not have today — unit economics, segment and customer profitability, and KPI reporting leadership uses to run the business
• Produce the monthly and quarterly reporting package for the CEO and Flying Horse Capital ownership
• Own banking and lender relationships, debt compliance, and capital structure
• Lead capital allocation analysis and investment decisions for growth initiatives

Systems and IT

• Own the IT function, including infrastructure, vendors, applications, and cybersecurity posture
• Lead ERP and financial systems evaluation, selection, and implementation
• Build the data and reporting infrastructure to support growth and eventual multi-entity operations
• Manage technology risk, business continuity, and IT spend

Human resources (shared with the CEO)

• Own compensation structure, benefits, payroll, HR compliance, and workforce cost planning
• Partner with the CEO on organizational design, talent strategy, and culture, where the CEO leads
• Support hiring plans and headcount decisions with the analysis behind them

Growth and expansion

• Build the financial infrastructure required to support geographic or line-of-business expansion
• Evaluate and support add-on acquisitions, including diligence, structuring, and integration
• Partner with the CEO on pricing, margin, and commercial strategy

What We’re Looking For

Required

• 15 years of progressive finance and accounting leadership, including CFO, VP of Finance, or Controller responsibility at the top of a function
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience upgrading or rebuilding a finance function, not just operating a mature one
• Strong technical accounting foundation and command of the financial statements
• Real FP&A capability — you can build the model and defend the assumptions
• Track record leading and developing a team, including making hard personnel calls
• Experience owning or closely overseeing IT, systems, or an ERP implementation
• Ability to partner with a CEO as a peer and be direct with an owner
• Located in or willing to relocate to the Austin metro area

Preferred

• CPA
• Experience in a private equity-backed, family-owned, or founder-led company
• Experience in a business that grew through acquisition, including integration work
• Experience succeeding an interim or long-tenured predecessor and managing that transition well
• Exposure to multi-entity or multi-location operations
• Industry experience relevant to the company, which we will discuss directly
