Job Title: Machine Operator

Job Description

This role operates a mill machine that forms metal into pipe, performs routine adjustments and minor repairs, and supports high-quality production of precision stainless and specialty alloy tubing. The position combines hands-on mechanical work, basic electrical awareness, and light welding, with extensive on-the-job training and opportunities to continually build skills in a safe, supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the mill machine to bend metal into pipe form according to production specifications and quality standards.
  • Change out metal rolls on the mill machine at regular intervals, typically every 2 to 12 hours, ensuring safe and efficient setup.
  • Perform troubleshooting on the mill and related equipment to identify mechanical or process issues and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Carry out minor mechanical repairs and adjustments on the machines to keep production running smoothly.
  • Conduct quality checks on finished and in-process product using appropriate measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Monitor machine performance and product quality, and make process adjustments as needed to maintain consistent output.
  • Use basic knowledge of 3-phase, 480-volt electrical systems to recognize when an issue requires escalation to qualified electrical personnel.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance on the machine, including cleaning, lubrication, and routine inspections of parts and components.
  • Complete a small tack weld to connect metal strips as needed; follow provided training and safety procedures for all welding tasks.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely for adjustments, repairs, and fabrication-related tasks.
  • Document work performed, including maintenance, adjustments, and quality checks, as required by plant procedures.
  • Collaborate with teammates and other departments to maintain smooth workflow across shifts and support production goals.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, lockout/tagout procedures, and plant policies to maintain a safe and friendly workplace.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers about machine status, quality concerns, and any issues that may impact production.
  • Participate in training and continuous learning to develop skills in machining, maintenance, welding, and fabrication.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience troubleshooting and running production machinery in a manufacturing or similar environment.
  • Experience performing basic maintenance on machines, including preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and think critically to solve problems on the production floor.
  • Familiarity with machining, maintenance, mechanical repair, or fabrication work.
  • Basic understanding of electrical concepts, including awareness of 3-phase, 480-volt systems, sufficient to recognize when to escalate issues to qualified personnel.
  • Ability to use measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to perform precise quality checks.
  • Hands-on experience using hand tools and power tools in an industrial or mechanical setting.
  • Capability to perform basic welding tasks after training, including small tack welds to connect metal strips.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts on a set schedule and reliably maintain attendance.
  • Effective communication skills for reporting issues, documenting work, and collaborating with team members.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • in machining, maintenance, mechanical repair, or fabrication is highly valued.
  • Experience with welding and fabrication, with at least 2 years of maintenance and welding/fabrication exposure preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and think outside the box in a production environment.
  • Comfort working with both mechanical and basic electrical aspects of industrial equipment.
  • Willingness to learn and expand skills in machining, welding, and fabrication through on-the-job training.
  • Strong reliability, accountability, and a proactive approach to safety and quality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a non-union, team-oriented environment with multiple shifts.

Work Environment

The position is based in a manufacturing plant with roughly 100 employees working across four shifts in a non-union environment. This role primarily works on B shift, Monday through Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., following completion of a training period that may last approximately 3 to 6 months. The work involves operating mill machinery and using hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers, and basic welding equipment in a production setting. The facility emphasizes safety and friendliness, with established procedures and a strong safety culture. The environment is hands-on, mechanically focused, and designed to support ongoing skill development in machining, maintenance, and fabrication.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
