Accounting Assistant

Our client is an organization in the Baraboo area looking for an Accounting Assistant. Our client is looking for a dependable and detail-oriented individual who enjoys a mix of accounting, data entry, and customer service responsibilities. This position will support daily accounting operations while interacting with customers and team members in a busy, collaborative environment.

The Accounting Assistant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

• Assist with daily accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
• Enter and maintain financial information within accounting and business systems.
• Support the preparation and processing of journal entries and other general accounting transactions.
• Assist with general ledger and chart of accounts-related activities.
• Review accounting information for accuracy and research discrepancies as needed.
• Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation.
• Perform a high volume of data entry while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Assist with account reconciliations and other routine accounting activities.
• Support accounting needs across multiple areas of the organization.
• Respond to incoming phone calls and direct questions or requests to the appropriate team member.
• Provide professional and friendly service to customers, guests, and internal employees.
• Balance accounting responsibilities with incoming requests and changing daily priorities.
• Utilize accounting software and Microsoft Excel to maintain and organize financial information.
• Assist with special projects and additional accounting or administrative responsibilities as needed.

The Accounting Assistant will possess the following:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Accounting or a related field preferred but not required.
• 12+ years of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, or related accounting experience preferred.
• Recent accounting graduates with relevant coursework, internships, or other practical experience will also be considered.
• Exposure to journal entries, general ledger accounting, or chart of accounts concepts is a plus.
• Comfortable learning and working within accounting, ERP, or other business management systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with PivotTables, lookup functions, or similar Excel tools is a plus.
• Strong data entry skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with a professional and approachable communication style.
• Comfortable answering phones and assisting customers or other individuals as part of daily responsibilities.
• Ability to stay organized and productive while managing interruptions and multiple priorities.
• Dependable, flexible, and willing to assist wherever needed within a collaborative team environment.
• Eager to learn and develop broader accounting knowledge and responsibilities over time.
