Kitchen Attendant

The Kitchen Attendant is responsible for cleanliness, hygiene, and general support duties within the camp kitchen at HKN's Rmilan Field, Syria. The role covers dishwashing, cleaning of kitchen equipment and surfaces, basic food preparation support, and safe handling and disposal of kitchen waste, helping the kitchen team maintain a clean, safe, and efficient working environment.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• Wash and sanitise all pots, pans, utensils, crockery, and cooking equipment promptly after use.
• Clean and disinfect kitchen work surfaces, sinks, floors, and walls throughout each shift.
• Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, and sorting vegetables as directed.
• Safely collect, segregate, and dispose of kitchen waste in line with camp waste management procedures.
• Restock kitchen consumables such as cleaning materials, paper towels, and hand soap as needed.
• Transport food supplies, equipment, and stock within the kitchen and storage areas as directed.
• Support the Head Chef/Chef and Chef Assistant with general kitchen duties during busy periods.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of dry stores, cold rooms, and refrigeration units.
• Follow all food hygiene and HACCP-related procedures relevant to cleaning and waste handling.
• Wear correct PPE and follow camp dress and hygiene requirements at all times.
• Report any equipment faults, pest sightings, or maintenance issues to the Head Chef/Chef immediately.
• Support pest control measures by maintaining a clean and clutter-free kitchen environment.
• Assist with the setup and breakdown of the dining area/DFAC as required.
• Participate in training sessions on hygiene, safety, and kitchen procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a kitchen cleaning, dishwashing, or general kitchen support role is an advantage.
• Basic understanding of cleanliness and food hygiene practices.
• Must be physically fit and able to perform manual duties, including standing and lifting, for extended periods.
• Must be of legal age to work (18 years or older) as per applicable labour law.
• Must hold a valid medical/health certificate ("Yellow Card") and be free from communicable conditions.
• Willingness and ability to live and work in a remote field/camp environment.
• Good teamwork attitude and willingness to follow instructions.
• Flexible to work rotational shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required.
