Job Summary:
The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in all areas of the facility. This role includes cleaning and disinfecting patient rooms, operating rooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, and other public areas. The technician ensures compliance with infection control standards and always follows safety and sanitation protocols.
Hours:
- 0.2 FTE - 16 hours per week
- PM Shifts
Essential Job Functions:
- Clean and disinfect rooms, furniture, equipment and other areas in the facility according to established procedures, policies and manufacturer recommendations
- Remove waste and transport to the appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste stream (i.e. regulated medical, recycled, solid, and hazardous)
- Restock supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and hand sanitizer in various areas
- Ensure all logs and check lists are accurately completed and kept up to date
- Contribute to departmental performance improvement efforts aimed at enhancing patient satisfaction, safety and environmental cleanliness standards
- Follows all environmental and infection prevention protocols including proper cleaning/disinfection procedures, hand hygiene, use of isolation precautions, and correct donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Participate in the department’s on-call rotation and respond promptly to call-ins as needed
- Use the organization's secure messaging platform in accordance with departmental protocols, including timely receipt and responses to communications
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Quality assurance and accreditation standards
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality laws and patient rights
- Effective English communication in verbal and written format
- Quality work including attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic computer proficiency
- Knowledge of healthcare cleaning protocols, safe chemical use, equipment operation, and efficient practices for maintaining specialized environments
- Knowledge of evidence-based guidelines and standards from AHE, APIC, AORN, CDC, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory bodies
- Carry out customer service standards
- Prioritize tasks effectively through managing workload based on urgency and importance
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Continuously learn and improve through staying up to date on job specific trends, policies and new technologies
- Successfully demonstrate organization-wide performance review competencies
Qualifications:
- Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
- Previous cleaning experience in a hospital environment is preferred
- Must possess a cell phone that interfaces the organization’s secure message system
